Lefferts Boulevard crosses the Belt on one of the parkway's more modern latter day overpasses. It was put up in the 1960s, part and parcel of the construction boom that also involved the next door, semi-aborted Nassau Expressway and the expansion of JFK Airport. Whereas most older stoneface arched crossings extend out from the service roads on heavy solid retaining walls, Lefferts vaults across the Belt on air. |
Though adornment was already falling by the wayside by the more cash strapped 1960s, funds were still found for brickfacing the overpass supports. Taken in mid June 2001. |
