Hi guys. Well, Wayne and I had a wonderful week's holiday in Tenerife for our first anniversary. Tenerife is part of the Canary Islands (just off the north west coast of Africa). We had a fantastic time and came back with fabulous tans. We actually had two Winters in a row, coming to England when we did, so the warmth and the sun was a welcome change for us! Here are just a few of the best pics from our holiday...

This is the wonderful view from our motel room. Couldn't believe it when we first got there. The weather was around 26C/83F the whole week and alot of the time we spent by our motel pool, catching the rays and frollicking in the water. The sunsets from our deck were some of the most beautiful we had ever seen.

Here is Holly on the Playa de las Americas waterfront. There were hundreds of restaurants to choose from all with a sea view...absolutely fabulous! The beaches have black sand as the island itself is volcanic and it reminded me of the west coast beaches in Auckland. Weirdest thing...people come around selling stuff on the beach, drinks, fruit, coconuts and lace! Weird.

Tenerife featuring THE SPICE GIRLS!!!!! Well, not the real Spice Girls, but they were great. This was a show called Decades that we went to on the second night. It was so much fun. Free drinks all night and a wonderful show featuring songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. Wayne won 2 bottles of champagne for being the loudest cheerer AND we were dragged up on stage to perform Y M C A!!!

Guess who this is supposed to be! The main presenter was a hilarious drag queen who got into all sorts of outfits for the occasion. She really got the crowd going and everyone seemed to have a brilliant time. Could it have had something to do with all that free booze? hehehe

This was a fantastic bar called Rumours which Wayne and I took a shining to while we were there (ie we were there every night!) LOL The DJ was from Middlesborough, so you can imagine the hilarity when Villa beat them 4-0 on Valentines Day. WOOO HOOO!!! Wayne and I got a little trollied that night (our anniversary) and we had a go at karaoke! Wayne attempted Take That and I, being the Ally McBeal fan that I am, had a go at Barry 'big black man' White. Needless to say, we emptied the place fairly quickly LOL

These are just some of the bars in the resort we were staying at. If you look hard you can see the famous Linnekers Bar which is owned and operated by the Linneker brothers. Very cool nightlife. So much to see and do and the atmosphere at night is just electric.

This is the Sunday Market in Los Cristianos which is the sister resort of Playa de las Americas where we stayed. As you can see there were loads of people which was a bit daunting when you're used to Avondale Market. LOL

This would be me lounging in the pool. Wayne wanted to buy an alligator lilo but I wouldn't let him. LOL The pool was a little chilly to start with(hence me being on the lilo the whole time) LOL but it was wonderfully refreshing after a long hard day in the sun. hehehe And this is what they call Winter in Tenerife!

Here is my darling on Mount Teide which is the highest in Spain and the Canaries. It's actually a dorment volcano and could go at any time! Last eruption was in 1906 and our tour guide filled us in on some interesting geological facts. Also, parts of Star Wars was filmed on Mount Teide (the sand people part I think).

This is a better picture of Mount Teide which was truly awe inspiring. It amazes me that where we were standing is sometimes covered in snow. The rock formation closest to the foreground is called table rock...I have no idea why. LOL

Holly and the Penguin. On the North side of Mount Teide is Loro Parque which translated means Parrot Park, but there were far more interesting things there than Parrots. The aquarium was amazing...similar to Kelly Tarltons to those of you who are NZ'ers. There were hundreds of penguins and sharks and fishes...very cool.

The best part of Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz was the dolphin show. As you probably guessed from my antics on our motor home holiday in '98, dolphins are a passion of mine. They are amazing creatures. Sadly they only live for a quarter of their natural life expectancy when kept in captivity.

This would be Wayne and I dining in a very upmarket restaurant in the resort. We're trying the famous spanish dish called paella, a delicious blend of rice and seafood including mussels, prawns, shrimps, cockles etc. This would have to be my favourite picture of the holiday.

Well, that's it for now folks. Hope you enjoyed coming on holiday with us! We will be adding other holiday piccies as we take them so keep checking back!
