I am a 36-year old Midwestern male, who is happily married to a wonderful woman who was an occasional smoker. I am proud to be a member of a growing community of men and women who believe that smoking can be glamorous. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the smoking of my wife, who preferred Virginia Slims Ultra Lights Menthol, but occasionally smoked Capri Menthol 120s or Virginia Slims Superslims Menthol. In fact, the very first time I saw my wife smoking a cigarette, it was a Capri Menthol 100, shortly after their introduction in late 1987.
If you're wondering how I know so much about Capri, it is because I smoked them myself for many years, since that wonderful night in 1987. I am not ashamed to admit that I've always preferred to smoke long, slim cigarettes. Unfortunately, brands matching this description are usually targeted as women's brands. It is because of this fact that I have chosen to remain a "closet" smoker, hiding my secret hobby from friends and relatives.
It is my opinion that traditionally feminine brands should be marketed to male smokers as well. In fact, when Capri first came out in late 1987, I saw several men smoking them in public. Obviously, this was before the first ads appeared, proclaiming Capri as the "slimmest cigarette known to woman."
My wife and I have since quit smoking, due to an additional family member. I hope to enjoy Capri again someday when the opportunity presents itself, and I hope my wife will join me.
