Code of an Officer
I am an officer of the United States Military Cadets and I am proud of this fact. I recognize the rich heritage behind the corps of officers, of which I am part, that has been built up by those who have marched before me.
This rich heritage has been built on a code--the code of an officer. This code is simple and easy to remember... Duty... Honor... Country. But it is not so simple to execute and requires a lifetime devoted to work, self discipline, and courage.
DUTY
The word duty means to me that...
When I am assigned a mission, I accomplish it thoroughly, efficiently, and quickly. I accept all of my responsibilities even when not assigned them. Within my field, I hold myself responsible to be aware of everything that occurs and to take positive action to correct what is wrong or improve that which is merely possible. I do my job regardless of danger to me personally.
Honor to me means that...
As an officer of the United States Military Cadets my personal integrity is irreproachable. I will never degrade myself by lying, cheating or stealing. I hold myself personally and unequivocally responsible to ensure the preservation of the honor of the officer corps of United States Military Cadets.
Country means to me that...
In addition to being an officer of the Special Army Cadets, I am an American citizen. I am an official representative of my country and will so comport myself. I will endure any hardship, any sacrifice, for the welfare of these my United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
I am an member. I am a member of the United States Military Cadets --a protector of the greatest nation on earth. Because I am proud of the uniform I wear, I will always act in ways creditable to the organization's service and the nation it is sworn to guard.
I am proud of my own unit. I will do all I can to make it the finest unit in the United States Military Cadets. I will be loyal to those under whom I serve. I will do my full part to carry out orders and instructions given to me or my unit.
As a member, I realize that I am a member of a time-honored profession--that I am doing my share to keep alive the principles of freedom for which my country stands. No matter what the situation I am in, I will never do anything, for pleasure, profit, or personal safety, which will disgrace my uniform, my unit, or my country. I will use every means I have, even beyond the line of duty, to restrain my comrades from actions disgraceful to themselves and to the uniform.
I am proud of my country and its flag. I will try to make the people of this nation proud of the service I represent, for I am an member of United States Military Cadets.
Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer
No man is more professional than I. I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a leader of members, as a Noncommissioned Officer, I realize that I am a member of a time honored Corps, which is known as "The Backbone of United States Military Cadets" I am proud of the Corps of Noncommissioned Officers and will at all times conduct myself so as to bring credit upon the Corps, the organization service, and my country regardless of the situation I find myself. I will not use my grade or position to attain pleasure, profit, or personal safety.
Competence is my watch-word. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind -accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my members. I will strive to remain tactically and technically proficient. I am aware of my role as a Noncommissioned Officer. I will fulfill my responsibilities inherent in that role. All Members are entitled to outstanding leadership; I will provide that leadership. I know my Members, and I will always place their needs above my own. I will communicate consistently with my Members and never leave them uninformed. I will be fair and impartial when recommending both rewards and punishment.
Officers of my unit will have maximum time to accomplish their duties; they will not have to accomplish mine. I will earn their respect and confidence as well as that of my Members. I will be loyal to those with whom I serve; seniors, peers and subordinates alike. I will exercise initiative by taking appropriate action in the absence of orders. I will not compromise my integrity, nor my moral courage. I will not forget, nor will I allow my comrades to forget that we are professionals, Noncommissioned Officers, Leaders of Members!
Cadet Creed
I am an United States Military Cadets' Member. Soon I will take an oath and become an United States Military Cadets' Officer committed to defending the values which make this Nation great. Honor is my touchstone. I understand mission first and people always.
I am the past: the spirit of those warriors who have made the final sacrifice.
I am the present: the scholar and apprentice member enhancing my skills in the science of warfare and the art of leadership.
But above all, I am the future: the future warrior leader of Special Army Cadets, Inc. May God give me the compassion and judgement to lead and the gallantry in battle to win.
I will do my duty.
Officer Creed
I will give the selfless performance of my duty and my mission the best that effort, thought, and dedication can provide.
To this end, I will not only seek continually to improve my knowledge and practice of my profession, but also I will exercise the authority entrusted to me by the Director of United States Military Cadets with fairness, justice, patience, and restraint, respecting the dignity and human rights of others and devoting myself to the welfare of those placed under my command.
In justifying and fulfilling the trust placed in me, I will conduct my private life as well as my public service so as to be free both from impropriety and the appearance of impropriety, acting with candor and integrity to earn the unquestioning trust of my fellow members --juniors, senior, and associates--and employing my rank and position not to serve myself but to serve my country and my unit.
By practicing physical and moral courage, I will endeavor to inspire these qualities in others by my example.
In all my actions, I will put loyalty to the highest moral principles and United States Military Cadets above loyalty to organizations, persons, and my personal interest.
