Hamsters are WILD animals!
You CAN be a successful hamster owner- but please make sure to educate yourself BEFORE YOU BRING HIM HOME, so that you can avoid making the same mistakes I did in the beginning- at my hamster's expense...
If you are planning to own a hamster, that's great! Right now, I am raising 1 dwarf (who has outlived her cagemates) and 1 syrian- and they both live in confined housing. But, knowing a hamster is wild by instinct, I have asked myself an important question: If I (naturally free and independent like a hamster) wanted to come or go, or get some fresh air, how would I feel, if all I saw each time I tried to look outside, were BARS? That question led me to do some research of my own, and it ended up changing the way I raise my hamsters- for the better. I am not trying to discourage "caging" a hamster. Hamsters make wonderful pets, and CAN be happily confined, but only IF you educate yourself as to his needs BEFORE you buy him. BUT... I am trying to get people to think twice before buying a hamster, confining it to a small cage, and only talking to it or letting it out for a moment at a time to feed it or clean it's home. If this is the type of hamster owner you were planning to be, PLEASE DO NOT BUY A HAMSTER!!! A hamster is only truly happy if it's "wild" needs are met- and YOU will the one your hamster depends on to make that happen.. So, if you are up to the challenge, please read on, and enjoy your new hamster! CLICK HERE TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR HAMSTER'S TRUE NEEDS. |
