Time for Friday
Five:
1. What's your
favorite animal? Dogs. Never met a dog I didn't like.
2. What pets have you had in your lifetime?
Childhood/Family
pets:
Dogs: Honey (Spitz); Dixie (Pomeranian); Yuki (Toy Poodle); cat
named Pu; turtle; salt water fishes and goldfish; sea turtles in a
tidal pool; goat named Billy; lamb named Blackie; canary and
parakeets (that barked like our dogs); Betsy the cow; pigs and
piglets; a rabbit; and a rooster that grew up from a little chick (a
prize at the county fair).
College:
A kinkajou, six lab rats.
Our own dogs:
Happy
& Lucky/ Hau`oli & Laki (transitioned in 1998, six
months, apart); O
and Freddy B,
three years old. All Shelties. You can meet them here.
3. Is there any
specific pet that you've wanted but never had? Why?
No. I
was a huge Lassie fan, but watching a Disney movie, Little Shepherd of
Catalina, I
fell in love with Shelties. And for the last 15 years, we
have been owned by four of them.
4. Are you allergic to any animals?
Certain cats. Not
all. Some have dander that affects me. I like all
animals, so just because I'm allergic to a few cats doesn't keep me
from liking them. Some people are dog people; others, cat
people. I am both.
5. Do you have any 'pet' pet peeves (your pets or others')?
I am peeved with dog
owners who allow their dogs to go off leash and poop in their
neighbor's yards. We are those neighbors with the pooped-on
yard. The dog is a sweet Airedale terrier. Not his
fault.
We're still waiting for
O to outgrow her nibbling of our sheets, bedcovers and bath towels.
Until then, we've learned to live with her personalized
touches, i.e., holes.
Those who flagrantly
break the no off-leash law in our national forest. They can
spoil it for the rest of us. State parks already forbid
dogs.
