Sunny and Clear in Big Bear, California

Greetings,

Click here for White Christmas (wav)

It's a gorgeous morning!  It must have snowed last night.

Today is the Winter Solstice, which, like Daylight Savings time, makes absolutely no sense to me.  Isn't this December and isn't winter just beginning?

Yet, the darkest day -- the shortest day of the year when the sun is at its lowest and weakest -- is today.  Tomorrow the day will be longer and the sun, higher and stronger, yet spring is months away.  I will personally attest to this being the shortest day, as here it is: it's early evening, yet it is pitch-black outside.

We celebrated the solstice with good eats:  DH made some delicious crab cakes accompanied by the perfect chardonnay.  My professorial husband on vacation turns into a master chef.

Lucky me!
