She was born on Sept 16, 1939 in L'Anse, daughter of Melford and Rita (Miron) LeClaire. She grew up in Baraga and graduated from Baraga High School in 1957. She married Richard Hiltunen on May 21, 1960 at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Charlene was a teacher's aide for the Baraga Area Schools for about 20 years, retiring in 1999. She enjoyed reading books, baking, shopping and crafts. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
Charlene loved her family and was a great wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Richard of Baraga; mother Rita LeClaire of Baraga; five sons, Dennis of State College, PA, Steven (Michele) of West Olive, MI, Richard Jr (Tina) of Lakeville, MN, Brian (Ann) of Janesville, WI, and Larry of Rochester Hills, MI; four brothers, James (Carol) LeClaire of L'Anse, Leonard, Doug, and Paul LeClaire all of Baraga; five sisters, Kathryn (Lance) Heikkinen of Baraga, Mary (Gary) Glover of Chicago, IL, Carol (Stu) Hamacher of Norway, MI, Joanne LeClaire of Baraga, and Lorraine (Ray) Maki of Baraga, six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Melford LeClaire and two brothers, Pete and Joe LeClaire.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, July 9, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. Burial was the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse was in charge of arrangements.
Fran was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. She enjoyed farming and cooking for her family and friends and was well known for making Finnish cheese.
She is survived by her husband; son Roger (Janet) Takalo of Pensacola, FL: daughters, Linda (Gary) Wadaga of Baraga and Barbara (Randy) Trudeau of Marquette; five grandchildren, Jason, Kendra, and Brandon Turunen, Rachel Takalo and Gabrielle Trudeau; two great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl (William) Carkeek of Baraga; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by half sisters Gertrude Gerchow, Agnes Golden, Sadie Zilinsky, Marguaret Silbilski, and Dorthoy Sayles; half-brothers John and Adelore Chaudier.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 AM on January 31 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. Father George K. Joseph was the celebrant. Spring burial in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
George was born in Pontiac, MI, son of Andrew and Elva (Giddings) Bergerson. He attended Baraga Schools and was a lifetime resident. On April 11, 1955, he married the former Evelyn Saari at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga.
Mr. Bergerson served in the United States Navy. He was employed at Celotex Corporation for 28 years, retiring in 1988.
Mr. Bergerson was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. He served as Baraga Village Marshall and was also a member of the National Guard Unit, American Legion Baraga Post 444, Knights of Columbus, and a charter member of Bay Ambulance and the Baraga Fire Department. George's leisure activities included gardening and woodworking.
Mr. Bergerson is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sister, Grace Paquet of L'Anse; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Perry, Cyril and Earl; five sisters, Beatrice LaTendresse, Mabel, Martha, Margaret, and Alice Bergerson.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Jan. 22, 2001, from St. Ann's Catholic Church, Baraga. Fr. George Joseph and Fr. Norm Clisch con-celebrated. Spring burial will be in the Baraga Cemetary. His nephews will serve as casket bearers.
A parish prayer service was recited at 6 PM on Sunday at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel. Area veterans, under the direction of American Legion Baraga Post 444 and Baraga Firemen conducted military honors and review at the funeral chapel at 7 PM. In lieu of other expressions of symphathy, the family suggested memorials to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Frances was born in Houghton December 7, 1922, daughter of John and Bertha (Blice) Hilgers. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1940. She had been a resident of Baraga for over 45 years.
On September 21, 1942, she married Raphael Massie. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Frances was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Chruch in Baraga, the Order of St. Francis, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Baraga.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, and crafts. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and as a testimony to her faith, she endured each day's trials with strength and determination without complaint.
She is survived by her twelve children; eight sons, Robert and Cheryl, David and Susan, John, Mark and Linda, Peter and Becky, Dennis, Dale, and Thomas and Amy; four daughters, Pat Kimball, Mary and Douglas Tervo, Sue Timm and Kathleen and Peter Koski, all of Baraga; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen and Ray Deroche of Marquette, and Marie and Agnus Hilgers of Houghton; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 28, at 11 am from St Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga with Fr. George Joseph officiating. Interment will be in the Baraga Cemetery.
Her grandchildren will honor her as casket bearers. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9 AM until time of the service.
He was born on August 10, 1942, in Marquette, a son of Charles and Arietta (Hagerman) Perry. Lloyd moved to Baraga in 1963 and married Betty Cadeau on October 16, 1965 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. They moved to Alabama in 1976 and lived there until 1988 when they moved back to the area.
Mr. Perry worked as a logger, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed camping, picnics and the outdoors. His family was his whole life.
Lloyd was a former member of St. Agatha in Alabama where he served as Vice President of the Parish Council. Presently, he was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Jim: one sister, Callie Mattila.
Surviving are his wife, Betty; two sons, Dennis and Thomas of Baraga; four daughters, Judy, Kathleen, Karen and Elizabeth Perry, all of Baraga; four brothers, Dan and Bessie of Bruce Crossing, Gordon and Lucy of Olympia, WA, Charles and Mary of Chula Vista, CA, Bill and Judy of Sheffield, Mass, two grandchildren, Helen and Michael. He is also survived by several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass was held at 10 AM, Oct. 20, 2000, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga with Fr. Guy Thoren and Fr. George K. Joseph to con-celebrate.

Sonny was born in Baraga, Nov. 11, 1917, the son of Joseph J. and Evelyn (Bohmier) Darcy. He attended school in Baraga and was a life-time resident. During World War II, he served in the US Army attaining the rank of staff Sargent.
Following his Army discharge, he worked for the Northwoods Lumber Company, and later was employed by the Pettibone Corp. In 1959 formed the Baraga Manufacturing Compnay. In 1980, Sonny sold the business to Baraga Porducts Corporation. He served several terms on the Baraga Village Council and had served on the Baraga Township Board of Review. In 1941, he married the former Eleanor Rabideaux in Findley, Ohio. She preceded him in death in 1980.
Sonny was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga, American Legion Foucault-Funke Post 444 in Baraga, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles L'Anse Post 2287. In addition, he had been a member of the South Paw Bowling League, had hunted big game in the Rockies and Alaska, and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed berry picking and reading.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas and Val of Baraga and Francis and Shirley of Indian Lake, OH; four daughters, Barbara J. and Clyde Swartz of Baraga, Victory A. and Mike Mleko of L'Anse and Fort Pierce, FL, Sandra and Daniel Pittsley of Baraga, and Anne M. and Jim Miller of White Lake, MI. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister Pearl Fallon of Iron Mountain; two aunts; sister-in-law Gloria DArcy; and brother-in-law Ruben Hansen. Several nieces and nephews, and cousins also survie. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Joe; brothers, Joseph and Charles; and a sister, Louella.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Sept 15, 2000, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. Fr. George Joseph was the celebrant. Interment took place in the Baraga Cemetrey. His grandchildren honored him as casket bearers. Baraga county veterans accorded military honors at the funeral chapel under the direction of the American Legion Post 444. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel of L'Anse assisted the family with final arrangements.
Kelly was born april 25, 1932, in L'Anse, son of Harry and Lavinia (Asher) Perrault. he graduated from L'Anse High School in 1950. Perrault was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3897 in L'Anse.
Perrault was a board member of the L'Anse St. Vincent DePaul, and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. He facilitated the development of the Intertribal Council of Michigan, and was a Commissioner of Indian Affairs for the state of Michainga in the 1960's. Perrault was on the KBIC tribal council several terms over many years and was tribal chairman three times. He worked for the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe on the Leech Lake REservation ofr eight years, retiring in 1979. He married the former Noreen Goodell on May 19, 1979 in Minnesota, they then returned to L'Anse.
Perrault is survived by his wife, Noreen of L'Anse; two sons, Kevin and Jayne Perrault of L'Anse, Daniel and JoAnn Perrault of Lansing; three daughters, Kelli and Tim Sample of Lansing, Kori and Tom Bemrose of Diamondale, MI, Lisa and Doug Kill of Three Oaks, MI; three stepchildren, Mary and Dave Colliton of Maysville, KY, Shawne and Dave Kinsman of Florence, KY, Tom and Laurie Fitzgerald of Omaha, NE; a brother, John Stoddard of San Diego, CA; four sisters, Lois LaFernier of L'Anse, Rose and Melvin LaClair of Phoenix, AZ, Marilyn Mayville of Escanaba and Joan and Jack Noble of Phoenix, AZ. Twenty-six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on March 20th at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The VFW conducted military rites and parish prayers were recited. The funeral Mass was March 21, 2000, at St. Ann's Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Manderfield officiating. Burial in the Indian Pinery Cemetery.
She was born on August 14, 1904 in Norwich, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Archibald and Elizabeth (White) Palmer. Nellie graduated from high school in Norwich. She took her nursing training at Grace Hospital in Detroit and became a registered nurse in 1927. She was employed at the hospital for three years. she was married to the late James "Bill" Osterman on July 3, 1930 in Detroit and rsided there until 1944. The couple moved to Baraga in 1944.
Mrs. Osterman was the County Health Nurse from 1946 to 1966 when she retired. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Business and Professional Women's Club, and the Baragaland Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Judith Osterman of Perkins, two grandchildren, Kari Osterman of Schereville, ID, Kurt Osterman of Jacksonville, FL and two great-grandsons, james and Caleb Osterman; a sister, Jean (Harold ) Peeling fo Brandtford, Ontario, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald J. "Jim" Osterman in April 1999.
The funeral mass was on Jan. 7, at 11:30 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Fr. Paul Manderfield officiated.
She was born June 26, 1906, a daughter of Fabien and Febrone (Therien) Vizina. Lena attended Bellaire School in Baraga. She married lawrence Foucault in 1923. They moved to Detroit in 1936 and returned to Baraga in 1960. Lawrence preceded her in death in 1966.
Later she married Fred Duckett who also preceded her in death. Lena was a member of American Legion Auziliary, Foucault-Funke Post 444 in Baraga and St. Ann's Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son, Frank and Ruth Foucault of Marquette; two daughters, Margaret and Dr. Abrahm Rudnick of Las Vegas, Eileen White of Royal Oak; 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lena was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth mary; and a daughter, Barbara Rudolph; brothers, Fabien Jr, Wilfred, Adlore, Lawrence, Joseph, and sisters, Irene, Melina, mary, Albina and Corine.
Visitation was on Sunday 5-8 PM at the Sirard Funeral Home in Baraga, American Legion Auxiliary service was at 6:30 PM, parish prayers were at 7 PM. She was born in Charlotte, MI, on October 20, 1941, a daughter of Leonard and Irene (Pine) Hodges. She was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School class of 1959. On March 1, 1962 she married Chuck Egbert. They moved to Baraga from Lansing in 1972.
Phyllis was an employee of Ojibwa Enterprises in Baraga. She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles, being around family and friends and was an avid Detroit Lions fan. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga, Baraga Lunberjack Days Committee, Baraga Fire Department Auxiliary and Baraga Women's Bowling Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister-in-law, Kay Egbert.
Surviving are her husband, two sons, Leonard and Toni of Baraga and Steven of Manistee; two daughters, Tamara and Stacey Patterson of Holt, MI and Kimberly and Rob Gardner of Baraga; seven grandchildren, Casey Egbert, Chelsea and Christopher Gardner, Hope Egbert, Danika Strong, Michael and Kelsey Patterson; one brother, Keith Hodges of Bradenton, FL; and one sister-in-law, Sandy Thelen of Lansing. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Of Native American heritage, she was born in Baraga, on May 1, 1913 to Charles and Eva Cameron. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1931 and has been a resident of East Lansing since November, 1953.
Cameron was a receptionist at the Hotel Olds, Lansing, until its closing and a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, East Lansing. She was a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. While in Baraga she worked for Cole's Department Store.
Mae is survived by a sister, Bernardine A. Butler; and brother-in-law, F. Gibson Butler of East Lansing; and a niece, Sandra A. Butler of Chicago.
A funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Paul Manderfield of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Baraga on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, with the Rite of Committal at the Baraga Cemetery.
She was born on August 12, 1909 in Calumet, a daughter of George and Anna (Butala) Ellenich and moved to Baraga as an infant. Angeline attended the Baraga schools. She worked in housekeeping at Baraga County Memorial Hospital for a number of years.
She married Ignace Wadaga on February 18, 1928 in Baraga. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1976. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the Womens Catholic Order of Foresters and Baraga Civic Club.
Surviving are two sons, Larry Wadaga and Michael and Lori Wadaga: a daughter, Mary Ann and Ray Dompier; two sisters, Rose and David Clisch and Margaret Archambeau; a daughter in law, Peg Wadaga; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, all of Baraga. Her husband, two sons, Jack and Raymond, a granddaughter, Marilyn and a great granddaughter preceded her in death.

Jim was born on October 23, 1930, in Hancock, son of the late Joseph and Leona (Dompier) Schutte. He grew up in Baraga and graduated from Baraga High School in 1948. He was in the United States Army for two years during the Korean War. He received a bachelor of arts degree in 1958 from Michigan State University, a masters degree in education from Nothern Michigan University, and a masters degree in religion at Loyola University. He married Anne Cutler on Nov. 27, 1958, in Detroit.
He worked 17 years for Baraga Area Schools. Jim worked for the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community for 17 years as administrative assistant. He and his wife owned and operated the Baraga Floral and Gift shop for 10 years. He was currently the Director of Religious Education for St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga.
Jim was the Faithful Navigator for the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, President of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, a WUPPDR (Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region) board member for years, served on the Baraga Village Council, member of Bishop Baraga Foundation, Bay Cliff, President of the School Board for Diocese of Marquette, a member of the MEA, the BEA, and American Legion Post 444 of Baraga.
He is survived by his wife Anne, of Baraga; a son, Joe and Katy of L'Anse; two daughters, Suzie and Paul DeMuth of Bloomington, MN and Liz and Gary Nevala of Ishpeming; two sisters, Carol and Fred Ojala of Baraga and Mary "Sis" Kyramo of L'Anse; and three grandchildren, Jim Nevala, Catherine Nevala and Sean DeMuth.
The funeral Mass was conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at St. Ann's Church. Fr. Paul Manderfield officiated with co-celebrants, Fr. Greg Hakola, Fr. Bead, Fr. Wenzel, and Fr. Tom. Bishop James Garland was also in attendance.
She married Ray W. Stark on March 2, 1946 in Chicago. She worked in Pontiac, MI and Marquette, MI. briefly before moving to Baraga in 1950. She worked as an RN at Baraga County Memorial Hospital from it's opening until the late 60's when she worked at the Moyer Clinic until its closing and her retirement.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Ann's Catholic Church, the Third Order of St. Francis and numerous other groups.
She is survived by two sons, Paul(Anne) and Bill (Pat) of Baraga, a daughter Mary (David) Sikorsky of High Point, NC, and a brother Hermon Summers of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by eight grandsons and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, and brothers Matt and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 AM at St Ann's Catholic Church; Baraga, with Fr. Paul Manderfield as celebrant. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery.
Darryl was born on January 19, 1951, in L'Anse, a son of Norman and Gloria (Ellenich)Tahtinen. He graduated from Baraga High School and was a life-long resident of the area.
He was self-employed in the logging industry for 20 years. He also served in the Air Force in the mid 1970's with the Strategic Air Command. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Baraga and American Legion of Ann Arbor.
Surviving are his wife, Carol(Tolonen), whom he married Decembr 2, 1997; a step-son, Michael Whitty of Bruce Crossing; a step-daughter, Amanda Schoneman of Weston, WI and his mother Gloria of Baraga. Also surviving are a brother, Norman Jr. of Baraga, four sisters, Sharon (Roger)Kent of L'Anse, Norma (Jim)Kokko and Patrice Mayo both of Baraga, and JoAnn (Alfred) Muma of DesPlaines, IL; and two granddaughters Amber and Marissa of Weston, WI. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, aunts, an uncle and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
