Background: Of the two brothers, Sonak was the favorite because he followed his parents by not enlisting in Starfleet like his older brother. However, when S'kart was killed Sonak surprised his parents and friends by enlisting in Starfleet. He felt that his talents could be used better in Starfleet to repel the Borg. Sonak was assigned to Utopia Planetia Shipyards where he excelled at helping to make the production computers more efficient. When his four year term was up his supervisor recommended that Sonak be transferred to a starship to challenge him more and thought he would be more useful on a starship. At first Sonak resisted the transfer but realized that he was being illogical and accepted the transfer.

Personality Profile: Sonak has succesfully completed Kolinahr and thus his true emotions are suppressed. After a complete psychoanalytical study, Sonak is ready to serve aboard a starship. He has a strong sense of loyalty and only speaks when he feels it is neccesary too. To every problem he tries to find the simples solution. At times he strives to achieve the things that his brother accomplished. Sonak's parents have spoken to him little since they don't approve of his service in Starfleet.

Sonak came in as an ensign in an out of the ordinary position, got transferred into another out of the ordinary position (and was able to incorporate how his character would be selected for that position into the storyline), and never missed a beat. He got the Simmer of the Month Award in August 2002.
