Raised by her uncle, Xiang Ling (or Ling as she calls herself) is an extremely agile martial arts fighter, as her uncle is a professionally trained master in the martial arts. Her parents, both members of a party that wanted a more democratic China, were killed when she was 3 years old when they took part in the infamous Tiananmen Sqaure Riots, where they sided with the students in their fight for democracy in China. When her parents died, her grandparents gladly took custody of her, being her mother's parents. Having barely known them, Ling is content in listening to stories about her parent's bravery from her aging grandparents. But sadly, the grandparents died only a little over a year after having custody of her in a car accident, leaving her an orphan in the Chinese goverment's eyes. Ling was literally hours away from being put in an orphanage before her uncle suddenly showed up. It was a lucky thing he did, for he was virtually unreachable, living in the mountainous regions of China when he learned about her. From that day on, Ling studied the martial arts relentlessly, eventually becoming nearly her uncle's equal. Ling wouldn't exactly be described as an unhappy child...she would describe herself more or less contented, yet not overly joyous. There's a hole in her heart that would never be replaced by the deaths of her parents, and for years, she resented them leaving her with her grandparents and taking part of the dangerous riots. But after learning more about it, she understood what her parents fought and died for, and vowed that one day, if she could help it, she would try to continue her parent's work. But she also knows that right now, she is only a teen-ager, and for now, there is nothing she can do except obey her uncle and become the best fighter possible.
Ling is a slightly above average student in school, doing a little better than the other students. She mostly keeps to herself, perferring to be alone with her thoughts and imagination. But when she is ready, she likes to be the center of attentionand wants to know about everything and what's going on. As an Aries, Ling has a very passionate and determined mind, yet she wouldn't exactly push her thoughts on someone else. She is a fighter, but would only do so when provocked. She was always taught that sometimes, a battle can be won by not fighting. But when she is provocked to fight....WATCH OUT! Then, one fateful day, her uncle decided to take a chance and sign her up for a prestigious school for gifted children in London, England. Surprisingly, she was accepted, even though her grades weren't that spectacular, and she recieved a scholarship, thanks to the connections her uncle had with old friends in London. At first, Ling was angry and didn't want to leave what she knew and loved in China, but with encouragement from her uncle, she gladly accepted, and looks forward to what destiny holds for her.
