A Pig’s Right by Claire Maxwell
I am a vegetarian and here is my poem I wrote about it:
I am crammed into a tiny, tiny space
I can’t even lie down comfortably
Or turn around to see another pigs face
And that pig behind has chewed off my tail
Because he had nothing else to do all day
I hate it, I can’t stand it and all day I wail and wail
I really wish I were dead right now
But I know I will soon be dead anyway
And I bet you will want to know how
After a couple of years of suffering here
I will be trucked hundreds of miles while I cry
Against a horrific slaughterhouse death
I will be beaten, strangled and boiled alive
Given a slow, slow death, this will be done
And I can’t bear to think that when I am dead
I will be chopped up, refrigerated and sold to someone
Who will serve me up on a dinner plate
Only you can save me now
Before it is too late.
