Loma salmonae
This sample was taken from the carcass of a Coho salmon (Onchorhynchus kisutch) that returned to Fauntleroy Creek (Seattle, Washington) in November of 2001. It was the sample showing the heaviest parasite load of 12 gill samples taken for the purpose of establishing the presence of such parasites.
A large number of fish returning to other creeks in the West Seattle vicinity had died before spawning and a gill parasite had been proposed as one of the possible causes.
