Do you think that breeders are the fault for the pound and rescue population?
Well, allow me to shed some light on this.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Mills -- Breeds for pet stores who sells to anyone and doesn't care who's whim buying or what happens to the animals. Many of these go to pounds and rescuers or dumped on the side of the road. Many killed before their time. Only in it for the money.
Pet producers -- Are often referred to as back yard breeders. People who breed their "pets" because of 101+ reasons and not one of them are good. They don't want to fix em, just want to breed 'free to good home' pound pup's, kitty's, buns, piggie's............. Most are dumped in pounds and rescuers or are left on the side of the road. Many die before their time.
The true breeders -- Carefully breeds to better the breed. Attends shows to be sure they are doing it correctly. Monitors and keep close eye on all babe's when born. Keeps babe's that they want to keep and sell the othrs to other breeders or finds homes through screening. Gives education on what can happen when owning this animal. Has a take back policy for those who don't work out. Some will keep tabs on those who are in new homes. Of course gets all the blame for the pound animals. Every box of pups and kittens that are doped off (as if breeders would do that with $200. dogs). All the people who offers free animals somehow get linked back to the breeder that won't sell for less then $150. The people who breed pets have no worries as the breeder takes all the blame for all the "pet" breeders who really are not breeders. Must be nice for them.
There is that one........
There is that one that is both mill and pet producer at the same time. This person buys 2 animals. A male and a female. They are full bred with papers, they may even be registerd. They never attend a show and doesn't have a clue about what they are suposed to be breeding for. They haven't the slightest idea what confermation should be worked for. They simply breed the 2 animals, slap on papers (maybe) and list them as registerd animals. They charge as much as the breeder does for his, her animals and claims to be a breeder. They normaly will never take back the ones who doesn't work out in their new homes. I have even seen a gal take a dog that was droped back off at their house by the person who bought him and hatefully took the dog back to the house where he had lived and left him there knowing that the owner was not home and may not be for a while because she was out of town. I heard her say "I am not going to be responsible for that dog!" I couldn't help but think that she was supposed to be responsible for that poor dog when SHE bred him. She is responsible for what ever happens to him now because she is knowingly puting him in a bad situation and if he hadn't starved before the other lady got home, the dog was sure to go to the pound. I remember thinking of taking this little poor pug dog home. I wanted to so bad, I felt so sorry for him. But I had to go and the evil lady was still there and I knew I would get called on for theft by her if I took him. Her point to the other lady and showing off to the other people who she thought was watching her was far more important to her then that little dog could have ever been. I still think of him. I still feel guilty for not taking him home anyway, I wish I would have. I still wonder what ever hapened to that little guy who was a victom of a very hateful person. People like this have no respect for the animals and could care less about what the mothers go through if they have difficult births. Many of them do live in yucky conditions in the basement or where ever. As far as that goes they run the animals just like a mill. Even if they do have good conditions, (and they are few and far between) the people still don't care much about what happens to the animals as they care far more about their pocket book. They also run as a pet producer in the fact that they only breed pets. They don't have anything that a show person (the true breeder) would ever want.
I have a problem placing the name "breeder" on anyone who is not the "true breeder". All these other fakes give the breeder a bad name. The true breeder is forever having to prove themselves over and over again and still take the slaps that are dished out by these fakes. Every rescue story of a mix pup gives us breeders the eye brow. Every fake that makes a buck takes a buck from the the breeder who never makes a dime because every little bit of money that maybe gets made goes back on the animals and that doesn't even replace what money has gone on them. The fakes make money in the name of people rescuing animals from them while the breeder makes next to nothing and is told that if they would quit, the problem of pounds and rescuers would go away. Breeders are made to shut down as they can't afford it very well anymore and the fight against these people is just to much. The miller is still supported by people wanting to rescue them and has no problem kicking out more babies. They don't care what people think about them. Not only do they not think they are doing anything wrong but having bad reputations help them sell all the more.
