Game Days July 25
Games Day 25 July 1999.
The game was played out in 15mm.Bbut due to the problems we have had with (Time) the game moving slow with using cm, we decided to use inches instead to move the game long.
Mission
The Stellar Confederation of Planets is trying to secure a Peninsula on the planet Divans' Port. The first Element to land is the 15th Strike legion Recon K. Mission zone recon and secures a crossroad in the middle of Destinies Hope. Destinies Hope is a small town that has been shelled from orbit. This town is a vital point in the re-supply routes for the 54th Heavy Infantry Brigade and other Units further Inland.
Battle Map Of The Area
Turn 1
A Platoon sized recon element; Recon K takes a bold dash around the left flank of the 54th HIB. A large ridge protects this advance.
The 54th HIB Commander sees an error in is initial set up and realizes he hasn't an LP/OP to watch the left flank from on top of the ridge and immediately deploys a 4 man recon team to the rubble house sitting at the top. The troopers who were dispatched immediately see 4 APC’s and 2 heavy tanks rumbling across the fields toward the ridge. The squad leader, Not realizing the batteries were dead in his radio, tries to communicate that the enemy has been sighted no avail. Recon force scours the ridgeline but sees nothing significant.
Turn 2
The recon team of the 54th tries to communicate again with its higher H.Q. but still hasn't realized the batteries are dead so he orders the team back to re-organize with the rest of the squad. When challenged with a pass words the squad leader yells " to heck with that crap I'm coming in! This damn radio is dead and we have enemy forces just over the ridge getting ready to crest the hill top!"
The T.C of the squad APC hears the report and immediately transmits a Net message to all friendly forces defending the town that Enemy APC's and Tanks were coming.
1st Squad of Recon K, who was just replaced before the campaign began and had never seen combat before were naturally green. Their assignment was to traverse the hill and set up a fire support base at the northwest end of the hill. While moving into position A loader with keen eyesight spotted the movement and told the gunner the coordinates of the movement while the squad leader sent a radio message to all friendly units. The Mg team killed two green troopers and sent the rest reeling back down the hill to escape the deadly fire.
The Troops Crest The Hill Only To be Suppressed
The first tank from Recon K advanced on the hill and spotted the Mg team of the 54th HIB. The commander decided to open fire on the bunker that held the Mg team with a heavy Mg and the Hvy Gauss Cannon. The bunker was completely demolished and the 54th had its first three casualties.
The 54th Tank Becomes Mired In The Rubble!
The second tank from Recon K moved into position on the far Northwest hill and set up supporting fire. The 54th moved a tank and an APC down the road only to have the tank get mired on some rubble that was across the road blocking all advance through that area. Recon K tanks 2 sees and opportunity to get an easy kill but failed to hit the crippled tank.
Turn 3
The mired tank gets unstuck and makes a bold attempt to take out tank 1 of Recon K. The shot hits with full penetration but only tears a chunk of frontal armor off with no further effect. When seeing the tank virtually untouched the 54th Tank commander pops smoke in hopes to protect him self from retaliation. (These two monsters continue to fire at each other for two more turns with neither one hitting the other)
The rest of the turn is spent with both sides jockeying for better firing positions.
Turn 4
Recon K tank 2 takes a pop shot at 54th tank 1 through the smoke and rattles the commanders copula a little but misses with the heavy Gauss cannon. The 54th tank 2 becomes mired in rubble while maneuvering to the left to support the defense.
Recon K has all Infantry dismounted lined up ready for an assault. The player moves an APC right down the road and proceeds to clear an infantry fighting position of its occupants while the 54th returns fire with its APC guarding this road and takes out the K APC for the next 3 turns!
One infantry squad from K swoops down on top of a squad from the 54th to engage in hand to hand combat. The 54th sees the attack and fires in desperate hope of killing the jumping troopers. Only two casualties are caused by the burst of laser fire before squad K smashes into hand to hand combat. K kills three 54th troopers and loses one more. K takes some follow up moves.
The 54th tank 1 executes another daring move and races across the board to try and out flank K tank 1. This proved to be a fatal mistake as K tank 2 opens up and some how manages to get a Hvy Mg hit which results in a number of systems going down and a final result of an explosion. (It all had to do with one player rolling badly and the other really good).
The hand to hand continues with no excitement.
The 54th opens up with 2 APC’s on the green K squad that moved back into position on the hill. Two more green troopers are killed. (This was there final position as the green troopers were to scared to continue the fight)
Turn 5
Recon K tries to advance into the town and is cut down by opportunity fire from and apc anticipating an attack through this sector. Rifle fire across this area continues for the rest of the turn causing few casualties to both sides. The 54th tank 2 sees an opportunity to shoot while being mired and fires a Hvy Mg and its Hvy laser into 2 K troopers flattening the rest of the squad.
The Marines Emerge From The Smoke And Perpare To Assualt The Defending Troops
The Troops In The Defense Prepare For The Attack.
K force races a single APC around the rear flank of the 54th to try and cut off all escape.
Turn 6-9
The store was getting ready to close so we decided to end the game at this point. All players agreed to see the end of the hand to hand fight and thus rolled several turns before the last 54th trooper was run through with a bayonet from 4 sides. The remaining K troopers lined up to lend support to the rest of the battle but the troopers on both sides were smoking and joking knowing the battle had ended.
The Four Remaining Trooper Drive On After A Bloody Melee!
Ending notes:
We didn't have any major problems this game with the exception of one player not understanding the rules governing communications rolls and how they work. After is explained the communications went better.
We at TCG decided that we needed a clarification on the communications section and wrote one into the game.
Another Great Day for the Stellar Confederation Heavy Marines!
