Game Day September 24

Games Day

Games Day 24, September 1999

TCG held another demo at the local club meeting. The battle was fought out on a 4'x8' table. Rolling hill countryside was the scene for the engagement. A small ruined town was on the attacking side deployment area.
The Terran Player had one Platoon in the defense at the start, and some razor wire to help defend the sector.

The forces:

1st Red Horse Legion
2 Platoons of Mech. Infantry. (1 Platoon was Light PA and the other in Combat Armor).
Each Platoon had 4 Luther APC's And 4 squads of eight Troopers.
The troops were Armed with Gauss Rifles and Gauss MG.
The APC's were Armed with a light MG and a Gauss MG.

1 Platoon of Heavy Ranger Tanks Armed with A heavy Gauss cannon, A heavy MG and a Light MG.
2 Other APC's accompanied the force as a command squad and an Anti Vehicle squad.
A heavy PA squad was air inserted on the first turn of play.

The Mission was to capture the crossroads at the far end of the table in the Terran area of defense.

The Terran Empire Forces:
2 Platoons of Mech. Infantry (1 Platoon was in Light PA and the other in combat Armor).
Each Platoon was armed with Combat Rifles and Light MG. Each squad has 6 troopers.
The APC's were Bradley AFV's armed with a 25mm cannon and 2 tow Missiles.

1 platoon of AMX30 Heavy Tanks With High velocity Cannons, A heavy MG, and a Light MG

2 Bradley's accompanied the forces with a command squad and an Anti vehicle squad

The Mission was to defend the sector-using hill 1777 as the focal point for the defense.

Turn 1

The 1st Red Horse won the Initiative and moved some of his forces onto the Table. The Terran Player had one Platoon in the defense and also had some Razor wire to help defend the Objective.
The only thing that happened was A 1st Red Horse tank spotted an APC and fired at it doing little damage.

Waiting in the Defense of Hill 1777

The rest of the turn was spent moving the rest of the 1st Red Horse Legion onto the table.
A squad of Heavy PA from the 1st Red Horse was air assaulted onto the battlefield. The target point was the top of hill 1777 but the trajectory of the drop pods were way off mark and dropped them into the open field directly in front of a waiting squad and its vehicle. The squad and vehicle opened fire onto the hapless troops and killed two Pa troops immediately.

Turn 2

The Terran player rolled for reinforcements and succeeded in getting two tanks to come help defend the sector.
The 1st Red horse concentrated on the APC that was spotted last turn but could not do any real damage to it.

The APC takes a direct hit from a Red Horse Tank!

The driver was killed this turn and could not be moved until the driver station was remand.
All spotting attempts were failed, and no other casualties were done to either side. The PA troops fired at the squad but failed to do much damage by killing one trooper. The light Infantry fired again killing two more PA troopers but when the APC fired it only killed 1 more troop leaving 1 trooper left for that squad. A very ineffective air insertion had been thwarted.

Turn 3

Turn four saw the destruction of two Terran APC’s and a hand full of troops. No other casualties were inflicted. The Terran player rolled for more reinforcements and received 2 more tanks and command vehicles. This was the turn that started a freak dysfunctional dice rolling from both Players.
All spotting attempts and shots were failed.

Turn 4.

Very little was spotted again but the 1st Red Horse started to maneuver on both sides of the board setting up his attack and breach of the wire on his left flank. Several APC’s and tanks became mired in the trees as they tried to pass through. Several shots were taken at one tank from the 4 AMX30 Tanks. All shots missed or were saved.

The APC’s advance on the enemy positions.

One tank from the 1st received minor damage and was at a -2 to hit for the rest of the game. The Terran anti Armor squad fired all of its missiles at the same tank but failed to hit it as well.
On the 1st Red Horse left flank A platoon of Light Power Armor dismounts the vehicles and gets ready to breach the razor wire. A small firefight between one PA squad and a light MG ensue. The first Bradley has been knocked out by having the crew killed. A Luther APC has been knocked out and is immobilized.

Turn 5

The Terran Player gets all remaining reinforcements and pushes the limit on getting the troops to the razor wire. The 1st Red horse breaches the wire by running an APC through the wire and jumps two PA squads over the wire and on to the hill of 1777.
A large firefight breaks out between the two light PA platoons fighting for control for hill 1777. A major tank battle erupts as both players try to hit and destroy each other’s heavy tanks. 1 of the 1st Red Horse's Tanks has been blown up.

The AMX30 Takes a hit and survives the attack!

Two of the Terran AMX30's has been immobilized. 1 with a power plant hit, and the other was tracked. This gave the Terran to pillboxes!
On the Right flank of the 1st, A squad of light infantry dismount and charge a Bradley that has gotten to close. A small hand to hand erupts as the Bradley has mired in the trees and is counted as not moving.

The 1st Red Horse Troopers assault the APC and Destroy it in HTH!

The squad is successful in getting a catastrophic hit on the APC and it blows up.
Every one thinking all troops would be caught in the blast and destroyed. All troops saved from the blast by rolling 19, and 20's! (Nothing to take the hero turns though)

Turn 6

Another 1st Red horse Tank is blown up, and the Infantry is starting to dwindle down. Both players are aggressive in their tactics (real good for never having played our game before). But both seem to not be able to get anywhere decisively. They are blasting away at each other.

The Red Horse Heavy tank takes 9 direct hits before succumbing to the enemy fire!

One of the Terran tanks makes a Hero roll and the gunner is the one who gets a free turn. The gunner fires at an APC sitting on top of hill 1777 and blows a hole clean through the vehicle.
The 1st Red Horse Player speeds an APC and its squad to their objective and dismounts. This draws the attention of several infantry squads and two AMX30 tanks.
All the firepower firing at one squad but three-troop escape unharmed. A Command vehicle cuts around behind the lone unit and cuts off any escape route. The Terran player roles for morale and fails, which leads to a capture/surrender, roll. He passes this and the squad retreats back 1 full move. (The squad should have probably surrendered, but the roll was passed so we let them escape. The squad was surrounded by enemy vehicles and troops, but sense the roll passed we considered it a successful E&E maneuver). The apc was untouched.

Turn 7

The 2 Platoons of Light PA have maneuvered and have set up firing positions. An APC from both sides is destroyed. And a handful of troops are killed. The Terran player is set up in defensive positions behind the walls and building at the foot of hill 1777, while the 1st Red Horse is taking up positions around hill 1777.

In Conclusion:

This ended the game, It was starting to get late and one of the Team members had to go home. We concluded that the battle had ended undeceive for both players and called it a very close draw with the 1st Red Horse having a slight advantage..
For two players never having seen the rules, they picked up on it very easily and played real aggressive.

The Scenario was set up for a concentrated attack from the 1st Red Horse/ One Terran Platoon was set up in a defensive position while the rest was coming in as reinforcements.
This was to simulate an attack defend game with a counter attack coming from the Terran forces.
For the most part, the game played out like that, but the Terran Forces never got a chance to set up real defensive positions. The 1st Red Horse did achieve their objective on the battlefield but with heavy casualties to their attacking forces. They had taken the high ground in the Battle Zone and had Troops on the crossroads to prevent the 54th Hvy Infantry from a follow up attack.

This was a very successful Tank play test game. They're where no problems with game mechanics or game flow. The game took awhile to play but considering only two players with lots of troops and decisions. The game took a few hours to complete.
