Stephen David Ure was born on 28th of March 1958. He was delivered in the back seat of a taxi on the way to the Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards in Sydney Australia by his father David He is the youngest of the Ure family having only one other sibling, an older sister. Both parents, his mother (Chalice) and his father (David) now both deceased were second-generation Australians but going back a few generations he has Irish, Scottish and English heritage. Stephen first started acting when he was only five years of age. His very first job was on a TV comedy show called "My name's McGooley, what's yours?" Starring Gordon Chater, John Mellion and Noelene Brown, it was a very popular show on Australian prime time. He attended primary school at North Sydney Demonstration School (and was named school captain in 1969!!) Then he went on to North Sydney Boys' High school where he was consequently expelled at the age of 16 for basically just never going to classes regularly or school in general. Stephen did thoroughly enjoy doing drama and school plays in primary school, but his real interest in acting actually began in high school. When he was 14 he had to act out scenes from "The Cain Mutiny" for an English class. He scored the role of crazy Captain Queeg in the witness box when he was losing his mind. He had to have these ball-bearings in his hand that he rolled around to show how crazy he was, and Stephen started rolling them and rolling his eyes and thinking "This is great fun, maybe I could do this!" So then it was more amateur theatre and just moving around in forgettable non descript jobs until he decided that acting school was the place he really wanted to be. In 1995 Stephen landed a role in the New Zealand filmed TV action show Xena: Warrior Princess he went on to become a reoccurring guest charactor appearing in a few more episodes as well as appearing in an (1998) episode of the world famous show Hercules The Legendary Journeys. Between 1992 and 2000 Stephen appeared in a number of small movies and TV shows. Including: Chunuk Bair (1992) - Broken English (1996) - The Chosen (1998) - One of Them (1998) Duggan (1999) Exposure (2000) - The Bogans (2000) - Dark Stories (2001) Then finally his big break came when he was cast by director Peter Jackson for the role of the grisly Orc captain Grishnįkh in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, he also went on to play a further role as Gorbag in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Stephen is 5' 7 3/4" (1.72m) tall with gorgeous green eyes and dark brown hair. |
