(90) John, b. Sept. 27, 1804.  Prof. Darby was graduated at Williams' College, Williamstown, Mass. in 1830 or '83. He immediately went South and spent the greater part of his life there in educational work. In 1845, his health failing, he came North, and was one year Professor of Mathematics in Williams' College. He was connected at various times with the Wesleyan Female College at Macon, Ga., the Sigourney Institute and Collegiate Seminary at Culloden, Ga., the Auburn Masonic College and the Auburn Agricultural College at Auburn, Ala., and the Barhamville Institute near Columbia, SC.  His last position was President of the Millersburg University, Millersburg, KY. He married Julia P. Sheldon, of Manchester, Vt., Aug. 19, 1833. Their children were:

(99) Norman, b. Nov. 12, 1811. Dr. Norman Bedortha belonged to the Eclectic school of physicians and established a sanitarium in Lebanon Springs, NY.  He removed to Saratoga Springs, NY early in the fifties, and spent the rest of his life there as proprietor of a large water cure and hotel.  Dr. Bedortha married Lorinda Moore, (b. 1809,) of Fredonia, NY.  Their children were:

(100) Sidney, b. Nov. 7, 1813. His home was in Oberlin, O., where he died Aug. 5, 1895 childless.

(101) Luther, b. Dec. 9, 1815 in Sheffield, Mass.  He married Sarah Maria Strong, of Oberlin O., in 1844. Their children were:

(106) Joseph, b. May 22, 1811. He married Lovina, daughter of John Moore of Agawam, Nov. 30, 1837.  Their children were:

2nd marriage.  Mr. Joseph Bedortha was married to Mrs. Ellen Bowe of Saratoga, NY.

Mr. Bedortha spent the larger part of his life in Agawam.  He was an upright, honorable citizen highly esteemed by all. The death of his wife severed the tie which bound him to his native place, and he sought health in Saratoga, California and Florida, finally making his home in Mandarin, Fla., where he died Feb. 25, 1887.  His burial was in Agawam, by the side of wife and children.

(108) Julia, b. in West Springfield, Mass., March 18, 1814.  She was married ot Calvin R. Eaton, May 6, 1845.  They had two children:

In his early married life, Mr. William Bodurtha went to Ashtabula, O., which was then "the west" and spent several years, but returned to Springfield and made his home there till his death, April 26, 1863.

(121) Stephen Henry, b. at Chester, July 10, 1812. At the death of his father, when a young child, he was adopted by an uncle in Agawam. In early manhood he decided to make that town his home, and engaged in woolen manufacturing. He filled many offices of trust conferred by his fellow citizens, and after a long life came down to the grave with eye undimmed and mental vigor unabated, honored by all who knew him.  An intelligent observer of events, he formed for many years the connecting link between the past and present. He distinctly remembered the great grandson of Reice, and to him the author is indebted for many items of family history.

He was married in May, 1842, to Persis N., daughter of Asa H. Ewing of Agawam, by Rev. Lester Lewis. Their children were:
