This wide vein was followed into what the ancient miners called a Sea.
The rock matrix protected by an opposing 90 degree angle to the waves is identical to nearby rock with a similar, less interesting, and smaller vein that remains flat and uneroded by a direct pounding from the ice and waters of Thermodon.  The difference is 4 feet of rock removed above this varied and interesting vein that was perceived to perhaps open onto a copper nodule.
