In the forest immediately behind the exposed veins on Thermodon’s shore are other huge pits dug along veins, as shown in the picture directly above.  The prospector that came with me to the mines was drawn to this site decades ago by old mining maps (He gave me a copy of one) marked “Indian Diggings” a fair distance inland from Thermodon and inland from this site.  Near the place marked “Indian Diggings” I have visited old copper mine shafts, operated within the last 200 years.
