Announcements
for the week beginning
April 23, 2006
St. Peter's Lutheran Church--Davenport, NE

We are grateful for the love, care, and concern we've received since my cancer diagnosis.  Your prayers, cards, gifts, visits, hugs, and all the kindnesses are greatly appreciated.  God has richly blessed us through your words of encouragement and we ask for your continued prayers.  May His love and grace bless each of you.  Thank You!   Virginia and Jerry Brase

Thank you to all who helped us with the Easter Breakfast, providing food, time and talents, and to everyone who joined us to celebrate Christ’s resurrection that day. We appreciate your support of our group.
Active Christian Teens

LWML on Thursday, May 4 will be at 6:30 PM for a Salad Supper. We extend an invitation to all ladies of the congregation to please be our guests! LWML

The Constitution Committee has prepared a “draft” copy of the revised constitution and by-laws for review by congregation members. All voters have received a copy but there are several extra copies located under the mailboxes for anyone who would like to read through them. The document will be under review for the next several months before action by the Voters. If you have any questions, comments or ideas please speak with Mick, Mark or Russ.

“Spring – A New Beginning” is a Public Service Announcement you might hear on radio stations that regularly air “The Lutheran Hour.” Because the free-air-time PSAs are not allowed to use a phone number, Lutheran Hour Ministries has created a web site, www.thegodyouseek.com, where people can go to learn about the Christian faith, Lutheran Hour Ministries, and even hear the PSAs again. So listen for “The God You Seek” announcements on your favorite radio stations, and know that these are from our Lutheran Church.

A Brother in Space – NASA astronaut Jeff Williams was one of two aboard a rocket launched March 29 for the International Space Station (ISS). Williams, a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod of Houston, TX, called his pastor and fellow Lutherans from the space station, 250 miles above the earth, to let them know he was doing well and to thank them for their prayers and support.

Our Congregational Join Hands Day, the National day of volunteering to spark friendships among people of all generations as youth and adults come together to plan and conduct activities to improve their communities, has been set for Sunday, May 21 at 2:00 PM. Our Active Christian Teens and anyone else who would enjoy spending a couple of hours doing yard work and applying sealer at the Village Park, or would like to bring and serve refreshments contact Kelly Smith, Robin Schardt, or Patty Elting. Come join the fun! This special day is sponsored by America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies, including Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The Board of Trustees is currently seeking someone to serve on the St. Peter’s Cemetery Board. Anyone seeking more information please contact either Steve Reinke, Roger Schroeder or Mick Onnen.

Thank you! On behalf of missionaries Claude & Rhoda Houge (Kenya) and Bruce & Amy Lesemann (Jamaica), Gary Thies sends his thanks for our Mission Sunday gifts with an invitation to come and see and hear the Houges who will be at Mission Central on Thursday May 11. Anyone interested in going? Pastor would love to organize a carpool. Please let him know if you’d be interested.

Matching Funds for School – If you haven’t already done so this year, you can still make a donation to St. Peter’s School to supplemented (50%) by Thrivent. The forms are under the church mailboxes. Please return the paperwork to Mike Schroeder. Thank you for helping to support Christian education.

The printed version of “Christian Parenting Today,” which has been available at the Christian Resource Center, has passed away, but the online version lives on. You may subscribe to this newsletter by visiting ChristianParentingToday.com and sign up for it at the top of the page.
