We went to Yalong Bay. This is a beautiful bay where many of the nicer resorts are. We went on a boat with windows in the bottom so we could see the coral reef. We also went to the Butterfly Garden, which has an enclosed area with loads of butterflies in it. It also has a museum with many different species of butterflies and some huge bugs. On the way back we stopped at Deer-turning-back. We rode a mini roller-coaster sort of thing up to the top of the mountain and back down. You get a very nice view of Sanya City from the top. |
We just got back from spending the holiday (National Day) on the island of Hainan. We stayed at Palm Beach Resort and Spa, just outside Sanya City. Hainan is where the US spy plane landed a couple of years ago after colliding with a Chinese fighter jet. It is the southernmost part of China, and the climate is just like Hawaii. We had a very nice suite with a pool view on one side and an ocean view on the other. There are some very nice resorts here, but there are also areas where there is no development, even along the |

shoreline. There were a couple of areas where there were small communities of shacks right along the shoreline road. Their homes aren't worth anything, but they have a priceless view. Ten years from now I'm sure they will all be gone, replaced by resorts. There are not very many cars, a lot of people get around by motercycles, many with sidecars. These can be rented out like taxis. We did rent a taxi out one day, for the day, for Y150 (this is just under $20 U.S.). |
