Workshop Opportunities for Parents and Guardians |
"Homework? Oh, I did that at school." This workshop for parents and guardians focuses on how to work with their children who are struggling with the academics in middle school or high school. We will talk about strategies that will help the parent or guardian support the student in terms of making the student an independent learner. |
Managing the Middle This workshop focuses on the transition from elementary school to middle school in terms of school work and the social and emotional aspects of adolescence. This transition can be scary for everyone involved. Topics range from helping students adjust to the physical layout of the middle school, to making friends, to managing the work load. This workshop is also designed to focus on questions and concerns that parents and guardians have surrounding this transition. |
Living with Your Teenager It is no secret that teenagers have gone through changes and that the teenager of today is not the same as the teenager that existed just 10 years ago. It is also no secret that it is a challenge to have a teenager in your home. This workshop draws on the expertise of many leading educators, therapists, and youth workers on how to communicate and live with your teenager. |
Transitioning from High School to College The transition from high school to college is a big adjustment for all members of the family. The big question that needs to be answered is "What are some strategies to make the transition easier?" This workshop is designed to explore personal areas of concern and brainstorm solutions. The concers could range from academic to social and everything in between. This workshop is designed for parents and guardians of juniors and seniors in high school. |
Workshops for Educators |
Workshops for Educators Educators are required to do more than ever and because of this, have little time to research or create new ways to help students that are struggling in classes. Over the last eight years, I have pulled together practical resources that will help struggling teachers with struggling students. This workshop is hands-on and oriented to providing strategies that will ultimately help students become more indpendent and empowered learners. |
Workshops for Beginning Teachers What makes a successful teacher? A very difficult question to answer. Another way to ask it is to personalize it; "What makes or will make me a successful teacher?" While it is still a difficult question, it is a little more "answerable", with this second question you can look at yourself and your strengths and weaknesses. This workshop is designed to help first year teachers look at those strengths and weaknesses and build upon each. The workshop's strength is that it uses reflection to bring out the best practices within you. |
