This page is by far an official site, but one that is lovingly dedicated with honor and respect by a long-time fan of Padmini Kolhapure.
Padmini Kolhapure started in movies at an early age.In 1970 with the movie Satyam ShivamSundaram with which her career finally took off,and after many more movies, in some which she appeared only as a guest to some which she was the main star, totalling well over 70 movies, some of which were rated as flops while the others were considered hits and mega hits, she retired from the movie scene in 1991 while shooting her last movie Qurbani Rang Le Aayegi,when she fell in love with it's director Pradeep (Tutu) Sharma and left the silver screens of Bollywood- India and many of her fan's . Her fans and people loved her for her brazen style of acting that many of other Indian actresses could not and would not do in the then conservative Indian society. Another notable fact, in her movies if you look carefully when singing she is most of the time singing the songs, being a singer herself. Unlike a lot of actors and actresses, their lip movements do not match to the song played.
The name Padmini Kolhapure is today well known all over India for the many schools of acting that bear her name, from where many of today's present stars learned before becoming stars themselves.Recently she, has directed her very first movie which released in India and all over the world in the year 2000.As of this writing there is a rumor that she may be contemplating a return to acting. She is also well known at Indian grammy and musical awards ceremonies,where many of today's Stars have recieved an award or two from her.
