Topic this week:  Passion for Compassion

The topic of compassion is dear to my heart. I believe it's one of the most enlightening and insightful tools we have in life.
Compassion is one of the most beautiful gifts we will ever receive (or offer). It's very freeing.
I have a couple of neighbors who love nothing more than to start trouble and keep it going. They used to really anger me to the point that I honestly had no clue what I should do about it. Then I found compassion.
I've come to realize, through the practice and knowledge of compassion, that my neighbors were lacking something/s. Now when they want to start a feud I simply ask myself "What is it that they need?"
They must be in need of something. Maybe they need acceptance, love, self-esteem, self-worth, self-respect, or maybe just a hug. They are obviously not happy people.
When I get angry at someone (or myself) I now look at that person with compassion because I know they are in need of something. Have you ever noticed how miserable people seem to want others to be miserable too? If we allow their misery to rub off on us than we are not going to be any happier than they are.

Feeling compassion makes me feel much better than feeling anger. I now look at people and situations with an open and compassionate heart. It gives me a warm feeling that is almost unexplainable.
We need to feel and show the same compassion towards ourselves. There are times we need compassion too. The times when we are stressed, upset, lonely, hurt or for any number of reasons.
Compassion is a free gift that we can give and also receive. It's always there if we allow it surface. Allowing it to surface isn't always easy when we're in the midst of an argument or feeling emotional pain. That's the times when we really need it. Let compassion shine through.
We really are complex beings. We have such a range of emotions. Think about how many situations and negative feelings can benefit from compassion. It heals, gives us a sense of warmth, keeps us from hating, and keeps us in balance, emotionally.
Being compassionate in all situations takes some discipline and practice. Like anything else worthwhile, it takes time to perfect.
Can you imagine a world without compassion? Without it the world would be a cold and ruthless place to have to survive.
There's a saying that goes something like this: 'Let there be peace in the world. Let it begin with me.' That's a beautiful way to think, isn't it? Compassion is peace.
When you do something that you regret or say something you regret just speak softly to yourself and say "Everything is fine. We all make mistakes. I will just have to be more careful and more sensitive the next time." Whatever the situation is that you would need compassion for 'self' just speak compassionately and softly to yourself. We all deserve compassion.
Showing compassion to animals is vitally important as well. When they upset us all we need do is to say to ourselves: "Why am I getting upset? They are just animals. They don't know any better. They can't rationalize like humans can. They're sweet little spirits that are gifts if we allow them to be." (Please spay and neuter all pets.)
Allow compassion to be your guide and see all the wonderful benefits you will receive. When others feel or see your compassion they enjoy being around you and feel comfortable. Why wouldn't they? They feel the peace you carry within yourself and may be curious as to what it is about you that makes you so likable and serene. Awaken compassion.
Practice compassion and feel what true peace really is.

                GOAL FOR THE WEEK

Practice compassion everyday and in every way.

Show yourself compassion when needed.

                TIPS FOR THE WEEK

Plant some herb or flower seeds.

Take time to listen to the birds singing.

                  INSPIRATION

It happens all the time in heaven,
     And some day
It will begin to happen
Again on earth.

That men and women...
Who give each other light,
Often will get down on their knees and...
With tears in their eyes,
Will sincerely speak, saying,

"My dear,
How can I be more loving to you;
How can I be more kind?"
     ~~Hafiz~~

May you be filled with lovingkindness; may you be held
   in lovingkindness.
May you feel my love now.
May you accept yourself just as you are.
May you be happy.
May you know great and natural peace.
May you know the natural joy of being alive.
May your heart and mind awaken; may you be free.
