HORSESHOE MEMORIES - RONNIE JONES

I cannot remember a lot about Horseshoe coaches so it may not be of much help.

The main memories were not not to do with Summerhill Road, but mainly a few trips I did acting like a "co-pilot" with the trips from Dalston Mission. They were all pensioners in those days (Very much like Ray does). The local 'Horseshoe' office was next to the garage up at Culross Road and near the 'Fox' Public House.Thats where Mr.Rutter was based. He was a bit of a tyrant according to the drivers!

As regards to Horseshoe's, I did a few trips with them on the old Dennis.(All unofficial!) We used to load up at Dalston Mission and took them to Southend and various other places. The worst run was Cheddar Gorge,it took forever to get there and get back again! I had a visit from Mr. Rutter one morning and he showed me a letter from the Mission, thanking him for his service and praising the TWO DRIVERS he sent each trip!

I must admit they were a good crowd to take out, always cheerful and chatty.
It's so long ago now I can't remember the drivers name, Ray may remember? He used to have an old Jag (a real old banger!)

The main memory of the stables, which occupied the yard prior to the coach garage, was when they pulled them down and as I recall everybody was swamped with rats.
Alice Corbyn is probably the best for information with regards to the old stables.

The Good Old Days.
