You must be wondering why I haven't given much publicity to 'Bangalore Habba', and I too was wondering why I did not feel like 'Celebrating Bangalore'. Actually what is being celebrated I feel does not relate to Bangalore but to her rural area and in fact to Karnataka (this is only my opinion, many would not agree with me, but that is their prerogative).

I wonder if the people who are presenting the events are strictly Bangaloreans. I had written to the newspapers about the 'habba' and as to why it did not cover people who have contributed to Bangalore's development  and history. There should have been a platform where  people like Kora Chandy , T.P. Issar , Suresh Moona could have brought out the events of history leading to where Bangalore is today. But alas, as usual they are lethargic and do not respond to non-important people like myself, hence it has been ignored. I have only put up the itinerary what I found in the newspapers and haven't made an attempt to go and see any of the events although some are close to my place taking place on MG Road.

So much for the make-up of Bangalore, the cultures of Bangalore should also have brought out the old Colonial past. For example the Anglo-Indians should have been given an event on their forefathers, and so many products like schools should have been given an opportunity to event education that has been the boon to the Call Centers. I can go on and on and you can understand all this so call Habba is a lot of hullabaloo!!

But still, this Bangalorewalla is forgiving and is putting this up for other Bangalorewallas to attend the functions, afterall we must 'live and let live', but I hope that this expression is understood by one and all Bangaloreans. Hey, I got the above data from one of the newspapers, and also pinched the icons, well are we not all 'Celebrating the Bangalore Habba'? and I am just extending the same to all visitors to Bangalore and this page.  (After sending my article on 'TP' to the Press, within a very short span of two weeks, two stalwarts of Bangalore passed away, both people I knew well,  Fredrick Joseph Heredia and Kora Chandy !!! What is the use of closing the stable door after the horses have bolted? ).

Hey  Bangalorewallas, I actually went for one of the Programmes, it was our Wedding Anniversary, and what better way to celebrate than at the Bangalore Habba. at Palace Grounds
12th Dec Friday
A Fusion of Traditional Dance & Contemporary Percussion By Shobana & Bikram Ghosh
Shobana's dance recital went off well till the last piece when the stage sound failed, twice she started and twice it failed. It was very discouraging for the performers. Ghosh was very articulate in his percussion, and made the tubla and tamborine and other percussion instruments sound electrified, I think he did use a 'roland pad' also.
Classical Sarod Recital By Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Amjad played his usual sarod ragas to perfection, and was a great crowd pleaser.
A Musical Confluence By Taufiq Qureshi, Louis Banks, Niladri Kumar, Karl Peters & Sridhar Parthasathy. This was a much awaited performance which took place at midnight and also had its share of sound tripping, finally the large tv screens were shut  off and we had an eagles view of the stage from the last row behind the crowd. Taufiq was very loud with his percussion instruments that sounded very  much like the  steel Jamaican drums, and the  tubla player Parthasathy and Taufiq did many a  good gig. What was a disappointment was the utility of Karl Peters and Louis Banks, both were dominated by the 'electronic' sitar player Niladri who at first sounded very good with his utility of sound effects that made the sitar sound like a guitar, but when he went into a hyper noise sector and tried to copy Jimi Hendrix with the sitar that spoilt the mood and people really got pissed off with the band. It sounded very bad with the distortion unit on high gear drowning out everyone. One expected Karl and Louis to play more solo stuff and not the fusion that was dished out, and that was the reason why I went in the first place. The second as I said earlier, was my anniversary and what more chance to take the 'mussis' out than to the 'habba'. We got in and sat on the low walls that were all over the grounds. Lyn took us there by his car. Since it finished around 1 am, we did not wait to hear Sufi Music by Sayed Aadhil Husain & Group, so cannot comment on them. The stage was against the palace building which was outlined by dolly bulbs and looked very nice as a backdrop.

So much for the report on the Bangalore Hubba, I dont intent to attend any more programs, first it started late by an hour and then all the programs kept on getting dragged on and on. They want to have another 'Habba' next year!!! Strange, the newspapers did not carry out too many photographs of the various events around the city, perhaps they may do a 'special' next week hopefully!!
Cheers, Ronnie. 'Keep on trucking', will report from the Pub Town of Bangalore once in a while. In case you wanted to get an idea of  who was in the music scene in Bangalore in the past, you can check out the page http://www.oocities.org/ronnie.johnson/music.htm

Thought for the Day: " Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, Fon in the manner their fathers did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did they fathers to the false prophets." Holy Bible: Luke 6:20-26
