Suncoast Harmony Chorus History
The Suncoast Harmony Chorus is a proud member of Sweet Adelines, International - the worlds largest women's singing organization with over 30,000 members. Founded in 1947, Sweet Adelines International is dedicated to advancing the musical artform of a cappella singing, barbershop style, through education and performances.
The Suncoast Harmony Chorus was chartered in October 1986, under the name of Floridian Gulf Chorus. In 1996, the chorus name was changed to Suncoast Harmony, after having been confused with Floridian Golf Course for ten years!.
Through the years, members have come and gone, but the chorus remains a constant force in west, central Florida. Our membership roster includes homemakers, nurses, secretaries, medical professionals, business owners and teachers. Our backgrounds, musical experience and personalities are diverse, yet we promote friendship, self-esteem and a sense of belonging as we practice our craft.
Competing at the Region 9 Annual Convention is one of the highlights of our year. On several occasions, most recently in 1999 and 2001, we have brought home the "Most Improved" award. In 2002 we came home with our first Top 10
finish. What a thrill it has been as we continue to strive for bigger and better things!.
