and saw all that lay within,

a friend who dared to take me in,

when all others turned away.

 

I'll never know someone like you,

who gave so freely of their time,

and what was yours, you said was mine,

with no demand for love returned.

I had no love to give.

 

I'll never meet someone I respect more,

a friend who taught, without a word,

who helped me soar free like a bird,

who released the ties, then let me be,

watch as I flew, to become simply Me.
