Welcome to the world (and to the moon and back) of extremely wireless communication. Perhaps at some time in your life someone showed you a large collection of tube gizmos in a room, wall papered with cards from around the world. May be you have gotten up late at night and tied a wire to your radio, in hope of getting a station just a little further away from the last one you were able to hear. Has your frustration with cell phone drop outs, peaked your interest in how the information gets in and out of that thing in the first place? Would you like a hobby that helps you know what to do in the case of neighborhood or national emergency ? AMATEUR RADIO HAS FOUND YOU I hope that within the pages of this web site, you will be able to learn the skills you need to get on the air. There are three levels of licenses , Technician (with or with out code) General and Extra. Your technical knowledge may help you be well prepared to take the test or you may need to go slow, but you can get your licenses. There are many books, tapes and websites to help you learn, as well as what hams refer to as an "Elmer's" who help tutor operators in the finer art of the hobby. |

Cell nets come through inaugural load just fine
Concerns about overloading the country's wireless networks came to naught Tuesday as the major cell phone carriers reported their aggressive preparations for Inauguration Day paid off. They reported few problems despite a significant increase in their normal traffic loads of calls and texts. Carriers had established satellite sites to provide more capacity. AT&T had poured in a reported $4 million to beef up its network and Verizon Wireless pointed to its $1 billion long-term investment in the Washington market. |

Why Grandma Sandy and Aunt Roz don't want an HDTV any time soon With the prices of HDTV’s plummeting, one would think that people would be rushing to buy new sets, particularly with the analog TV mass-extinction event coming in February. But the reality is, many people have no intention of replacing their TV sets, preferring to delay the inevitable using a cheap converter box or maintain their existing Cable and DBS Satellite subscriptions — and the economy is not the only factor involved.more |
Fly wi-fi Firmafest writes there's a scoop that American Airlines will offer Wi-Fi on domestic flights. Price is approx. $10 to get connected. Being a frequent international flyer I hope this will catch on. The LA Times reports that the cost is about $100,000 to equip a plane. While that number seems high, it will probably be worth it. If I had a choice between two flights both equally good, I'd pick the Wi-Fi enabled one." The article also says that JetBlue and Southwest Airlines are at least experimenting with Wi-Fi access aboard, while Delta already offers it commenton link |

The metropolis just put out an all-points-bulletin to tech companies, and the general public, seeking new gizmos and innovations that would improve the cab riding experience.
