Sunrise Center is a non profit program made possible through the generous support of the Hogg Foundation, the Meadows Foundation and the community of Austin.
Through a network of trained volunteers, collaborations with the University of Texas, and coordinated efforts with other local refugee and immigrant service providers in the Austin area Sunrise offers a variety of mental health services. These include individual psychotherapy and psycho-educational group therapy to assist in adapting to American culture. In addition to these services, Sunrise also offers psychological assessments for clients seeking asylum in the United States. As part of our overall commitment to the local community, Sunrise also provides secondary trauma counseling to any individual working in the refugee and immigrant field.
Obtaining mental health assistance is a difficult challenge even for someone born in the United States. Imagine the challenges someone from another country faces? Everyday in Austin many refugees and immigrants struggle with adjusting to a new culture and a new language while experiencing emotional problems related to the trauma they endured on their journey to the U.S..
