Cliff Burton

of Metallica

Date of Birth: February 10, 1962
Date of Death: September 27, 1986

Cause of Death: Died tragically whilst on tour with Metallica in Sweden. In the early hours of the morning the band were in their tour bus on their way between gigs. The entire band were asleep when the driver failed to negotiate the icy and twisting bends of the road. The bus rolled throwing Cliff out, but the bus then tragically rolled on him, crushing him to death. It was a truly tragic loss as Cliff, as a founding member of Metallica, was just starting to enjoy international success with Metallica's 'Master of Puppets' album. His death forever changed the sound of Metallica as his playing and song writing abilities were truly missed.

Final Resting Place: San Francisco, California

Claim to Fame: Bass player for Metallica. Check out their 'Ride the Lightning' and 'Master of Puppets albums to hear his playing, especially the track 'Orion'. Also listen to his legendary earlier solo 'Anaesthesia: Pulling Teeth' from 'Kill 'em All'.
