Caroline's Spine
If you don't know them yet, check them out. But be prepared to be blown away. It's impossible to come away from their show unhappy.

This page is in honor of (from left): Jason Gilardi, Scott Jones, Jimmy Newquist, and Mark Haugh. (As well as Spine's backbone: Ed, Seth, Tim, PJ, Damian and Andy! The guys who keep them out of trouble. Or is that in?)

[The Spine guys talk about Attention Please]

Spine picky about label
The guys played showcase shows for the BIG GUNS in NYC during the first week in May, and their attitude about their career right now is very upbeat. The rumors are that the boys will be playing more showcase shows this summer as they determine what label will treat them right. They're currently working on new material, and of course it all sounds great, Jason reported. Can't wait to hear it!

The band will return to WI to play the Taste of Madison Labor Day weekend. What a treat, as always. :) Can't wait!

Like It Or Not still available
The remaining stock of the band's self-released (5,000 copies pressed) Like It Or Not are still available for $15 at www.stopshopbuy.com/shop/ViewCat.cfm?Category=6. Follow this link to the area with the CD. A search for "Caroline's Spine" will turn up only their shirts. (I've gotta get myself one of those...) A person has to browse by category, then click music and scroll. Hey, cool. Mad Verb's CDs are there right next to Spine's. They're cool too. Pick em both up while you're at it. Don't pay eBay prices when LION is available for the regular price.

Update! Spine appearing in Hit Parader!
Caroline's Spine continues to appear in Hit Parader magazine. Repeated requests for a running list of which song was where has prompted me to put up this list (finally, I know!). The back issues department can be reached via (201) 843-4004 X157. Let them know that you want to see more Caroline's Spine in the magazine! The address is below.

November 2001: Hippie Boy, w/ a small reddish pic of Jim, taken, if I remember correctly, at the April Kitt's show. They used nothing but red lights that night, I swear. Grr.
January 2002: Again & Again, the story behind the song, with a pic of Jim and Scott taken during the Kiss medley encore at Club Raven, Labor Day weekend.
More to come whenever the guys get to HP the story behind "Wallflower." Keep your eyes posted.

Please note that all the letters go to the same editor, so we need as many different people writing as possible. Thank you for your effort, everyone.

Other magazines

A story on Spine appeared in the Feb/March 2001 issue of XII Magazine, a new magazine that is given out on the campuses of the schools in the Big 12 sports conference. The magazine is put out by Internz Publishing, who can be contacted at www.internzpub.com. I was told a few months ago that back issues would be made available for sale to the public if people would like to order them. A stripped-down version of the story is up on the website (fewer photos), if you click on XII magazine and then "browse articles." I'm not sure who the contact is to order back issues, but there is a contact page with a few e-mail addresses on it. Otherwise here is the ph#, taken from that contact page: Phone (918) 610-0756.

Caroline's Spine appears in an issue of Rock Hard, in Germany, issue #151. The story is a two-pager, with a good-sized photo of the band. Mark is in front (featuring his haircut and his favorite red shirt), and the other three are behind. They look great! I can't read German, so I got it for the picture, basically, but it looks really really cool and is definitely worth the $5. I'm not sure if a person can still get these back issues, as I ordered mine in Nov. 1999 (how time flies!), but it's worth a try. They take credit cards through e-mail and were very helpful.

Here's the link: http://www.rockhard.de/.

If you don't speak German, you have to tell them to write you back in English. Trust me on this one.

Anyone with any information on where a person can get the Album Network magazine, the Japanese magazine illustrated on the band's site or any Radio & Records magazines when Nothing To Prove was on the charts, please contact me.

A review of Like It Or Not appeared in Goldmine magazine in the Dec. 29, 2000 issue with Rob Halford on the cover. The magazine itself does not sell back issues, though; they have to be obtained through the magazine's official back-issue dealer, C-Bub, coincidentally also in Tulsa: 918 585 8222.

A long review or a short feature on Spine, whichever you want to call it, appeared in issue #505 of Goldmine. It's a Dec. 3, 1999 cover date and has Gov't Mule on the cover. The boys are on page 104, and the promo photo at the top of this page appears along w/ the article. It also has some quotes from 3/4 of the guys. Check it out!
