our friendship, he always says things that are positive. But I'm worried
if Ramli is stubborn with his hair, he might face a big problem". "I'm the one

go solo. Until now I still make Ramli a best example for my other artist

1969 - Ramli Sarip & friends movement in finding a self position as a group that is interested in music & rhythm. Their wishes & dreams became the same as the rise of "LED ZEPPELIN", "DEEP PURPLE", "ROD STEWART" & the others. They progress together in filling their mental & hearts during that time. Hardness & stubbornness that's in every youth heart never escape from their soul. Rahman Sarbani, Wahid, Joe Salim, A.Ali, Rosli Mohalim, Syed Hassan, Ahmad Jaafar, Wan Ahmad, Yong & Leman are the individuals that once stand behind Ramli Sarip at every "SWEET CHARITY" concerts. They left a hard breath of 'art' at every stages. Sweet Charity - a sweet name & beautifully remembered, become a hit at that time - creating nostalgia in times to come. Where did Ramli get the ideas to mesmerize the crowd in every SWEET CHARITY performances? "Actually I always get souvenirs that came in books & magazines from the west. Story of Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Deep Purple & much more, had taught me to become a good rock singer. What I see in them is their way of music not their way of life!!! " That's the first experiences for Ramli with SWEET.... Seven albums they made had filled their hearts with experiences. They broke the tradition in the era of "KUNG FU FIGHTING" and ended in the heat of "THRILLER". But Ramli's decision of going solo is still standing strong, continued to sing in the change of human modernization. The others were down on their knees, but for Ramli, there's no stopping in surviving the 'art'. This is because; Ramli & his hair & his Rock 'n' Roll had surrendered itself as the 'experiment' of the century.

| Ramli continued to act as a 'soloist' without help from the other main 'characters'. Thousand of eyes & ears , that all this while is used to talk about "SWEET CHARITY" , became stunned for awhile when Ramli released 'Panah Beracun ( Poison Arrow )' straight into their hearts. What had happened? Why? This is the question that lingered in all the fans in Singapore & Malaysia. Ramli said...... "For me, SWEET after a few albums had become stagnant. So it's better that we freeze it & wait when the time is right to release this nostalgia, like a plant that is going to bear out fruits." But Rosli Mohalim said..... "I don't know what Ramli is trying to do. For me, his journey as a 'soloist' left a burden that is too heavy for me & friends to accept. All this while, he is the 'leader' & now, he's gone." Quickly Ramli explained...... "It's not my wish to do it that way. But just have a look at SWEET situation right then! We were 'colored'!!! We all become stagnant. What's wrong if we explore ourselves as individuals to look for their strength & gain experience? The other members of SWEET all have their own talent in their own ways. If we used the experiences we had, I feel nobody will feel disappointed. Up to them......!! Like time is all plan, Ramli continued his life journey. And he continued his solo image - solo in the bus - solo in the taxi - solo in a flight - solo on top of a prayer mat & always solo in his rented room. What's the reward? Truly, this solo journey had increased more input. Time that goes by, had filled with hundred of songs that waits like a treasure chest to be found. Those who come in will get something to bring back home. Just choose. Ramli had become a 'chef' that is preparing a 'fast food'.

But he is successful with his solo album without bringing Sweet Charity

Let's take a look at Ramli Sarip's work. He successfully created songs, he wrote lyrics & he is abto arrange music while all the process of recording is going on. What does he need more to continue his work ? Of course, his friends that understand truely his situation. Any ideas or contributionhis work is like a knot that cannot be release. Friends beforehand look what Ramli wanted in his lyrics or songs.also much beforehand Ramli himself willing to receive anything given to him. Because for him, friends around are those who on't want to see Ramli Sarip like a useless hard stone. At least the stone can be used to break something. Looking at the type of songs created, he created lots of 'hit' song in 'major key', like 'Perjalanan Hidup', 'Istilah Bercinta', 'Doa buat Kekasih', 'Senandung Hidup Berbudi', 'Warisan' and lots more. This shows a difference from other local artists that is popular with song in 'minor' key. But this is not always the case. Everytime, Ramli let run away a melody freely following his heart & followed with fingers that hold the chord. What that cannot be denied is that , he always make the hardness as a .... This is the way Ramli communicate with that music situation. Look at his face expression & body movement while singing a song. He's not possess or acting doing that. This thing always happened in front of his friends. Furthermore this expression by Ramli also happened in the recording studio. He is like trying to instill his feeling in the recording. Even while singing together with the choir, Ramli still emotional with every lyrics of his song. We considered this situation as one leisure to pass time but for Ramli, this is serious. The truth is, Ramli record any type of songs that he sing. Even if just 'da-da-da-da' or 'na-na-na-na'. Regarding the choice of lyric when recording started, everything looks fine & suits with Ramli. If lyric regarding love, it sound truth & sincere. If Ramli is singing in praise of God, clearly he tried his very best & if Ramli singing for sympathy to the life around, clearly it shows his sincererity. Is this acting ? No ! No ! How can this happened ? Because Ramli always place his full feeling to every words in the lyrics that he sing. Truely he is a 'free-flow' singer . |

Ramli again continued his 'art' journey. This time by going to the past. Maybe his target is to take a turn, when he saw that the Malay art ,that is always high in quality, is no more a 'count' in the international market. So with 'CITARASA DARI SUARA HATI HALWA TELINGA DAN RENTAK ORANG TIMUR' Ramli took a brave step by inviting Khadijah Ibrahim, Jay Jay, S.M.Salim, Rosiah Chik & A.Romzi as his duet in an album that brighten back the Malay rhythm in 'IHSAN' & 'LAGU ZAMAN'. Once again, lots of people were surprised with this situation that had acclaimed as one phenomenon from Ramli. Furthermore, he willingly spoiled his rock status through traditional Malay musical instrument. He brought forward 'hadrah', 'kompang', 'gendang' & bamboo flute in his recording track that originate from modern technology. Ramli is also not scared to run something new to a way that is freer without too tight up with the traditional style. By making 'DONDANG' as the opening to the music fan & close with 'TAKDIR TUHAN' duet with Khadijah, enough to answer all the questions or the critics from the fans that all this time raises Ramli as 'PAPA ROCK'. When asked why Ramli 'DONDANG', he answered, this is all 'TAKDIR TUHAN'. That's easy, as easy as for those who feel easy with Ramli's experiment. What is clear here is that, Ramli again proof his feeling is good in singing that type of song. His technique of voice control & feeling acclimatization that he used when singing a song, proof Ramli had the signed of a multi talented singer. What is your feeling Ramli? "I feel I had filled two third quota of my responsibility towards 'art' in Malay society." What we need to know is that Ramli is a true 'KING OF ROCK AND ROLL'. A PIECE OF ROCK THAT IS ALWAYS ROLLING WITHOUT BEING ERODES BY CHANGES.

With every facts that had been said is not to shows that Ramli Sarip is a perfect human being. But it's only bringing reality to us, how an artistic human like Ramli willing to explore our life without waiting. Maybe awake or not, the songs that he created become background music to our daily move. Moving from the deep feeling in the youth to the age of forty plus, he still revolved around us. What's wrong if for once we look at him & gave strong support to his ambitions? Maybe, we thought that he is not an artistic intellect, but Ramli as an individual had been fair & smart towards talent that was given to him by God. Why not, we think deeply while there is time. Even if we don't like his works & thoughts, at least we could gave him a standing ovation as a blessing towards his works that had been in the history of the unfolding of Malay music.
