Satellite High School's Ashlyn Harris Named Girls' Soccer Player-of-the-Year GAINESVILLE – Ashlyn Harris, a senior goalie for Satellite High School has been named the 2004 Florida Dairy Farmers Girls' Soccer Player-of-the-Year. Harris helped her team to a Class 5A state runnerup finish by posting seven shutouts in 10 games this season and completed her four-year career with 50 shutouts in 65 games while allowing only 19 goals for a 0.30 goals against average. She was named the national Player-of-the-Year on the Parade magazine High School All-America team. In 2002, Harris gave up only two goals in six games in helping the United State Under-19 team win the world championship. Harris will attend the University of North Carolina on a soccer scholarship this fall. The winner of the Miss Soccer award, sponsored by Florida Dairy Farmers, Inc. and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, was determined in voting by a statewide panel of high school soccer coaches. Haig led his team to a Class 5A state runnerup finish and its third consecutive top 10 national ranking this season after winning back-to-back state titles in 2003 and 2002. In nine years at Satellite, Haig has compiled a 205-16-8 record with two state titles, two state runnerup finishes and another Final Four appearance. The winner of the Girls' Soccer Coach-of-the-Year award, sponsored by Florida Dairy Farmers, Inc. and the Florida Athletic Coaches Association, was determined in voting by a statewide panel of high school soccer coaches. Tyler Davis Named 2004 Florida Dairy Farmers Boys' Soccer Player-of-the-Year GAINESVILLE (May 27) -- Tampa Berkeley Preparatory School junior forward Tyler Davis was named the 2004 Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Soccer following a final round of balloting by a statewide panel of high school soccer coaches. Davis, who was earlier selected as the Class 2A Player of the Year, beat out runner-up Luke Sturgis, the 4A Player of the Year from St. Augustine Nease for the 12th annual award honoring the top boys' soccer player in the state. Rounding out the voting were Chris Sedlack (Valrico Bloomingdale), the 6A Player-of-the-Year, Juan Vargas (Davie Nova), the 5A Player-of-the-Year and Danny Vasquez (Miami Gulliver Prep), the 3A Player-of-the-Year. Davis scored 50 goals and added 17 assists in leading his team to the Class 2A state championship. In addition to being a first-team All-State selection and sharing Hillsborough County player-of-the-year honors with teammate Scott Strickland, Davis was named MVP of the prestigious Student Sports Soccer Invitational, scoring eight goals and adding three assists in the event featuring state and nationally-ranked squads. Zimmerman Named Florida Dairy Farmers Boys' Soccer Coach-of-the-Year GAINESVILLE (May 27) -- Tampa Berkeley Preparatory School coach Dave Zimmerman was named the 2004 Florida Dairy Farmers Boys' Soccer Coach-of-the-Year following a final round of balloting by a statewide panel of high school soccer coaches. Coach Zimmerman, who was earlier chosen as the Class 2A Coach-of-the-Year, finished ahead of 2003 award winner Bob Bauman (Tampa Jesuit), this year's 3A Coach-of-the-Year, for the 12th annual award honoring the top boys' soccer coach in the state. Zimmerman not only beat out Bauman for the award but also finished ahead of Sam Isajar (Valrico Bloomingdale), the 6A Coach-of-the-Year, Eric Simms (Tampa Gaither), the 5A Coach-of-the-Year and Allan Rice (Tallahassee Leon), the 4A Coach-of-the-Year. Coach Zimmerman led his team to a 28-1-1 record, the Class 2A state championship and a No. 4 national ranking in the final NSCAA poll. In 29 years as the boys' head soccer coach at Tampa Berkeley Prep, coach Zimmerman has compiled a 330-253-59 record with four state titles, including three straight from 1993-95 in three different classes, plus two other Final Four appearances. Coach Zimmerman also was named state coach-of-the-year in 1993, the inaugural year of the Dairy Farmers High School Sports Awards program.
