As you can see in the above picture, a degu (pronounced DAY·GOO) is a small, brownish-red rodent with a squirrel-like head, gerbil-like tail, and hampster-like body. They grow to be almost as large as chincillas. Degus are extremely cute, energetic, and intelligent, and will eventually form a tight bond with their owner if given enough attention.
