The Price is Right

This popular game show premiered on September 4, 1972 on the CBS daytime schedule and it continues to air today. Four members from a studio audience were called down to be contestants in "contestants row." There they would bid on a product. The contestant who came closer to the actual retail price without going over, won the product and played a pricing game on the stage to attempt to win a bigger prize.

Contestant gets ready to play Money Game from 1973.

Pricing Games include Lucky 7, a game where you play for a car by predicting the next number in the price of a car. Plinko, a game where you could win $50,000. Money Game, where a contestant picks a set of two numbers from a selection of nine that are either the first two numbers or the last two numbers in the price of the car. If the contestant is incorrect, the contestant wins the set of numbers in dollars. There are over 70 pricing games that are played each week on the Price is Right. The top two winners of the day would go on to the showcase where they would bid on a showcase of fabulous prizes. The person who bid closest to his or her showcase without going over, won the showcase. In October 1975, the Price is Right was expanded to a full hour. The only thing that changed was the way to determine who would go on to the showcase.

The showcase showdown was added and every half hour, three contestants spun a wheel, that had spaces ranging from $.05 to $1.00. The contestant who came closest to the $1.00 won the chance to be in the showcase. The person who landed on the $1.00 space won $1,000 and a bonus spin.
