Aoshi was born into the secret ninja clan the Oniwabanshuu. He suceeded the previous okashira Okina at the age of 15 becoming the new Okashira. His old ways has set the way he is now. The new Meiji era has no use with a rogue ninja clan so the Oniwabanshuu members all left to suit the new Meiji era. Only few members remain with Aoshi and thus setting the course of the Oniwabanshuu.
Amoung Aoshi's on tactical and weapon training he is also a master of the art of Kempo. He excels at this that he has taught fellow Oniwabanshuu members Hanya and Misao.
Shinomori Aoshi is a force to be reckoned with. His kempo skills followed by his Kodachi blades is truly a work of art. His techniques are well thought out and make his style of fighting vicous. His skills as a fighter make him one of my favorite characters. Even amoung the best of the JupunGatana he is known as one of the strongest. By giving in to the devil as Okina says Aoshi has surpassed the founder of the Oniwabanshuu making him trulya worthy opponent. His dark persona only amplifies his character. You can tell that he's gone a long way since his last fight with Kenshin. His development is constant and in the later half of the Jinchuu arc he picks up the Kodachi blades one more time for a truly spectacular fight.
