There is a War Memorial next to gateway to the churchyard,

also a plaque with the following wording:

 

 

Moorfield Colliery Disaster

7th Nov 1883

 

A plaque has been placed inside this Church commemorating the 100th anniversary of the disaster at Moorfield Colliery, Altham, and recording the names and ages of the 68 men and boys who died.

 There is a large graveyard in front of the church with over 1300 memorials. Near the church and laying flat are several stones dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
