Grenada Pictures

Mt. Hartman Bay

These views are of Mt. Hartman Bay. The overlooks were taken from the Secret Harbour Marina which has some great views of the harbor. The 2nd shot is of an environmental house built into the side of the hill; for around $1 million US it can be yours. The last is at sea level on a very nice day with our friends' boat Legacy in the foreground.

Prickly Bay

The 1st and 2nd shots are of Prickly Bay, one bay to the West of Mt. Hartman. Some friends were there before they came to Mt. Hartman and it was very pretty but more rolly as an anchorage. The last picture is from the anchorage near Hog Island, one bay to the East. It was nice there but more crowded. Our friends on Rejoice and Cameron were here but we visited only once since it was a bit of a ride and went through a narrow dinghy pass. We liked Mt. Hartman.

Island Tour

These and the ones below are from the tour we did. The shot with the colorful local boat was taken on a beach near where we ate lunch. The 1st is of Concord Falls. We were told that at the end of the rainy season, the falls are much bigger.

The top shot is the view from the northern point of Grenada where the last of the Carib Indians committed suicide rather than be subject to slavery by the French. In the background is Carriacou and Union. The second is the Grand Etang Lake which was very pretty but we got there too late to see much. The last shot is an old Soviet biplane that couldn't "escape" in 1983 when the US invaded Grenada. You can just see the CCCP on the fuselage.

These are from the Nutmeg cooperative near St. Georges'. There are several of these around the island since Grenada is the 2nd largest exporter of Nutmeg in the world, after Indonesia (where Nutmeg is indigenous). The reddish material in the bags is called Mace and found on the outside of the Nutmeg, which is a nut. It's used in perfumes, soap and many other products. The last shot is a worker who manually separates the nut from the shell for those that don't separate in the cracking machine.

These are taken at an old plantation, now used for selling spices and tours. The woman is describing the different spices; Nutmeg, Cocoa, Cinnamon, etc., grown on the island. The closeup is of the spices in the natural state. The big split pod is Cocoa, then Nutmeg in the middle and at the right is Cinnamon.

St. George's

These shots are of St. George's, the capital of Grenada. Its a very pretty town with a nice waterfront.
