Things to consider when getting a lovebird for a pet: |
Healthy full feathering Good padding on either side of keel bone( you have to turn them over to look) Bright eyed and alert Clear nares and vents Will to be handled is a must! Not biting hard Completly weaned, been eatting on their on for at least 2 1/2 weeks Eatting a variety of foods, but not completly on seed, mainly on pelleted food |
Things to avoid in feeding ANY bird: Any food or drink containing theobromine : that includes coffee, tea, any kind of soda, hot cocoa and any type of chocolate Do not feed avocados that means no guacamole either.(very posiounous) Never give them salty or sugary junk foods. Never let a bird have anything with alcohol in it. Even though some people think its funny for an animal to be intoxicated, its very dangurous, illegal and its also abuse. |

There are 9 species of lovebirds, but only a few are avaliable, because some are so rare to find and very expensive. |

Cage: The cage should be at LEAST 30x30x18 |
Food: Love birds should be on a specilized pellet diet made for them. Never should they be purely on seed, it's not good for them. Also fruits and vegetables and a mineral supplement is essential to sustain good health. |
