Taiko!

The sticks used to pound these drums resemble small baseball
bats, and the women of the group wielded them with a
practiced ease, smacking the drums with great might.
Taiko drumming can double as
a form of self-defense. Perhaps a pair of taiko
drumsticks -- bachis
-- is almost as effective as pepper spray in trained
taiko hands, and certainly less of a temptation for
boyfriends to do stupid things with them (see
Pete's sad but funny story). |
