What a small
world! These
are friends of Brian's parent's, and ours, too! We've
known Ken, Cindy and their son as long as we've been
here. Brian's mom and Cindy work for the school
district, and although they no longer work in the same
office, their friendship endures, and they make the walk
across the street to lunch together. We
often run into Ken and Cindy at Hawaiian
music festivals
and concerts; like us, Ken and Cindy are from Hawai`i
and love its music. Originally from Wahiawa, Hawai`i,
no doubt, they grew up with bon dances and taiko.
No doubt, today's song and dance performances reminded
them of home and gladdened their nostalgic hearts,
too. It is my
hope that this "jeneration" will do their best
to continue to perpetuate their culture by passing on the language,
song and dance of Japan, so one day, they too will sit in
the audience soaking in the culture of their ancestors'
homeland as presented by their children (or
grandchildren).. Time
flies. They'll be amazed how quickly that time
comes, just as we are. |
