On 23 April 2008 another new horse joined our little family - Sweetpea. We were looking for a mare to more or less take Arizona's place as family matron and heard about a mare that needed a home. She's a wonderful lady, so incredibly laid-back. When we first went to see her she was standing in the middle of a group of screaming kids - the kind that would have driven me nuts in just a couple minutes - and she was calm as a Spring morning. There was even a little girl on a tricycle running through her legs, and she didn't move. That was when we decided that we just HAD to have her. . |

We watched her being saddled and ridden - she was the picture of controlled energy. She was friendly enough with us, total strangers, and we found out that she had once been a trail horse for one of the more well-known stables in this area. Needless to say, we had great hopes for her, which have all been realized in more ways than we ever imagined. . |

These first couple pics are our lady with Dale on their first day together. Being new to the family, we wanted her to have some time to adjust to the rest of the guys - and them to her, so we left her inside the round-pen for a week. We needn't have bothered. She made friends with Blue, Banjo and Cherokee in minutes - Max couldn't have cared less. Many of the first pics of our lady contain at least one of the guys - most of them contain all 3 young-uns, they (especially Cherokee) took to her like a duck to water. . |

As this is being written (27 August) she's been with us for 4 months, and she's now just as much a part of the family as any of our other babies. She's even become a "cookie monster" like the others. She loves attention, she's totally cooperative in all things (except having her hooves trimmed), and she's a tyrant when it comes to "herd discipline". Nobody, not even Max, gets away with anything when she's around. . |
