Bell was the ‘man of the moment’ in the 1980s for high-profile glamour portraiture. A former Vogue photographer and graduate of the Royal College of Art, he was pursued for commissions by pop stars, socialites and magazines. His portraits included Elton John, Pierre Cardin and Kim Wilde although he is still best known for David Bowie’s Scary Monsters record cover. Marcus Thomson made a film about him entitled,’ Edward’.
Since the 80s, Edward has explored a new range of styles and subject matter receiving enthusiastic reviews for his dynamic landscapes and erotic nudes (his ‘Sligo Skies’ and ‘Scarlet Women’ exhibitions). The Sunday Times said of the Sligo Skies exhibition, “His focus is on the skies in all their changing moods, which he captures with a vast palette of colour, from dark and brooding vistas to the purples and reds of glorious sunsets.” Tatler described Edward as ‘a multi-colour visionary’.
