Taboo was held on Thursday nights at Maximus, a tiny club on Leicester Square. It opened in January 1985 & lasted just 18 months. But it became the most infamous club night of the 80's. Some people say that nightclubs are really a kind of theatre - it's all about putting on a great performance. Taboo certainly was. And it had more then its fair share of stars. Boy George, Michael Clark, Patrick Cox, John Galliano, Pam Hogg, John Maybury, George Michael & John Richmond were all regulars - but Taboo's biggest and brightest star was its host legendary Leigh Bowery.  Leigh presided over proceedings - holding court over this theatre of the absurd, this theatre of cruelty.
