Subject : Zeroing the M68

"Sir,

I am the NCOIC of the XXXXXXX Small Arms Training Team for the XXXXXXX Army National Guard. In this State there is an unacceptable level of confusion as to the proper way to zero the M68 at 25 meters. Sorry to say the idea of an offset confuses the average Soldier. I think I may have found a method to make the process easier for all.

Given the path of the bullet, for the first 50 meters may be taken to be linear, and we have two point of offset, we may use the slope formula and the slope-intercept formula (from Algebra) to find where the line of sight and the bore sight meet. I could also find that point using trigometery. Both methods resulted in that point is at 29.96 meters. I then caculated that the bullets should impact within a 4.82 centimeter in diameter circle. (Caculations on request.)

At Camp XXXXX, XXXXXXX we do have the ability to have a 50 firing point 29.96 meter (ok, call it 30 meters) range. The Soldier would then, first do a 10 meter laser zero, which will be 'close', then put the red dot in the middle of the new target circle and put all the bullets in the same circle.

I believe this would result in a quicker and better zero for the Soldier.
