Where to Place the Cage |
Keep these points in mind when you're finding a spot to put the cage: * the cage should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from drafts or vents * placing the cage off the ground gives your hamster a view of its surroundings and prevents cats and other pets from teasing and scaring your hamster * hamsters may occasionally dump shavings and other objects through the bars of a wire cage, so make sure that the area around the cage can be easily cleaned. * food should NOT be kept close to the hamster's cage, as this can be very frustrating to the hamster who can't reach it * hamsters are nocturnal, so they tend to make a lot of noise at night; place the cage somewhere where the noise will not interfere with your sleeping. On the other hand, the spot must allow your hamster to sleep soundly during the day, without loud noises disturbing it. * if you are keeping more than one hamster and are housing them in separate cages, make sure that the two hamsters cannot see or smell each other. The ideal would be to place the cages in separate rooms. * most importantly, keep the cage somewhere where you have an excellent view of your hamster. Hamsters are fascinating to watch and the joy of keeping a hamster is wasted if you can't comfortably see your hamster. |
