THE GEOGRAPHY QUIZ

Let's start with a song by Charles Atkins.  I first heard this song sung by Velma Fry.

If you want to write to Ms. Fry and tell her how much this song means to you,  write to her  c/o Roach, Kathy
[KRoach@mpr.org]

Dear Steve,
Thanks for writing. Below are the lyrics to Charles' song. There is some discussion, since I sang the song, that Mexico is actually the south-most tip of North America. I'll take that information to Charles and see if he wants to re-write it.
(++ see suggestion on the right side of this page). Any suggestions for tweaking the lyric? I hope you can use it. It's a wonderful song.

FLORIDA SONG (Charles Atkins)

On the southern coast of North America,

Just as far to the south as you can go,

Under the sun where mighty oceans run

Is a land that I shall always know.

Oh, Florida, oh, Florida,

Your flowers grow, your rivers roll along.

When other hopes and dreams are gone,

Your blessings will live on.

Florida, youčre my home sweet home.

On the south-most tip of North America

Is where begin my fondest memories

Of a land that I know,

A place where I must go,

And claim for me my liberty.

Oh, Florida, oh, Florida

Your flowers grow, your rivers roll along.

When other hopes and dreams are gone,

Your blessings will live on.

Florida, youčre my home sweet home.

When other hopes and dreams are gone,

Your blessings will live on.

Florida, you are my home sweet home.

Here’s the message:

Ms. Fry,  I’m a teacher in High School in South Florida and your song about Florida (sung on 3/8/2003) is sweet and reminds me why I love this state.  I was born in New Jersey and I’ll die here in the sunshine state.  Would it be possible to reprint your words in a book I’m writing to attract teachers to come to our state?  As you know, we need 20,000 new teachers by Sept.

www.oocities.org/talkinternational1/education.html  is my web site… I’d like to have a link to yoru lyrics or I could post your lyrics there.
