The old base is now "flattened" and construction of several hundred new homes is underway. The first "Show Home" opened a couple of weeks ago (Jun 2003). Word has it that a big name company (Morrisons) is to build a supermarket on the new estate soon. The church is still there, as is the mission support building, fitness centre and all the former USAF housing, the majority of which is privately owned or owned for renting. The picture of the plaque is a memorial that has been placed near the control tower on the flightline side. I think this was really a nice gesture by the owners, the Kemble family. I recently made a long visit to the old base with a couple of retired colleagues who were here visiting with their wives. (SMSgt(Ret) Dick Shively, wife Anita and SMSgt(Ret) Ted Hansen and wife Cindy). They enjoyed looking around the old storage areas, K9 Kennels, old Victor Alert Area, etc. Hope all former Bentwaters guys and gals enjoy the pics. Cheers for now, Ken Cook.
