Maureen and Jim Tansey

Our Visits to England

Our first time back to England was in 1972, seven years after arriving in Massachusetts. We have managed to return several times since.
We visited in April and May 1996. After arriving, Maureen developed a bad cold, followed by Jim getting the same. We limited our siteseeing to the local area. We visited local places we had never seen before. The village of Kersey which is known as the prettiest in England. Lavenham, where the series 'Lovejoy' was filmed has mostly old Tudor and Thached Roof, buildings. Norwich City and were very interesting places to visit. The Ruins of the Abbey in Bury St Edmunds was another enjoyable place. We visited the Ipswich Museum and, the Museum and Art Gallery (paintings by Gainsborough and Constable) at the Mansion in Christchurch Park, with it's beautiful arboritum, ponds and flowers. Flatford Mill where Constable painted many of his scenes was another great place. We always have to go to the beach at Felixstowe. It was a windy, raw, cold day as we, along with Maureen's Mum, walked along the beach and stopped to get fish & chips to warm us up. We had a great time on this vacation. Of course we did our share of visiting friends and relatives also. We have been lucky enough to have our friend Fred Collins supply us with a car every trip we have made, this time was a Ford Cortina. Driving is not fun, but is interesting. The city changes so much every time we go there. It gets extremly hard to get around, especially driving on the 'wrong side' of the road and on the 'wrong side' of the car. Parking is near impossible, the Charles Street Parking Garage got a lot of our money. Of course we did a lot of shopping there. We had a nice dinner out with most of the immediate family at the Black Tiles Restaurant see at Martlesham but opted out of having their Kangaroo.
We next visited in April and May of 2000. Spent a month there visiting friends, relatives, shopping, castles, and other places of interest close by Ipswich. Friend Fred collins again supplied us with a 1989 Suburu Legacy, LHD, estate 4-wheel drive. Had a great time as usual.
